Mechanical Engineer III
In this role, you will work on facility mechanical design, calculations and drawing preparation for various types of projects including green-field projects, brown-field projects, gap assessments, utility studies, etc.
Roles and responsibilities:
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations for projects using Carrier HAP.
• Sizing and selecting HVAC equipment including air handling units (AHU), fans, pumps, fan coil units, etc.
• Size and design ductwork and mechanical piping in REVIT.
• Prepare mechanical drawing sets in REVIT.
• Sizing and selecting plumbing equipment. Design plumbing piping (domestic water, sanitary, storm, etc.) in REVIT.
• Preparation of engineering studies and schematic designs for HVAC/Utilities/Plumbing systems and analyze the operation of existing systems.
• Research code issues and asks relevant questions of colleagues or Lead Engineer, code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required.
• Review the work of the project design teams, check the progress of the work, and alert Project Managers of scope changes or additional services.
• Coordinates all aspects of project document completion within IPS, externally with clients, and with other relevant design professionals.
• Promotes the use of IPS design and production standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
• 8+ years of previous design experience in the building design industry (for example: mechanical HVAC systems, air and hydronic distribution, heat loss/gain calculations, equipment selection and specification, plumbing systems design, etc.).
• Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Thorough knowledge of ASHRAE standards
• In-depth knowledge of Ontario Building Code, National Building Code of Canada and National Plumbing Code.
• Knowledge of NFPA standards and CSA standards.
• Must be proficient in the use of REVIT.
• Knowledge of Carrier HAP or equivalent load calculation software
• Has a demonstrated ability to work independently, problem solve, communicate effectively with all key personnel, and manage time.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proven time management skills and can juggle more than one project at a time.
• Thorough knowledge of system design and applicable codes.
