Full Job Description
ICON is looking for a Mechanical Engineer II to help in the development of ICON's latest print systems on the Phoenix Team. This team is responsible for delivering the machine known as Phoenix to Serial Production. As a Mechanical Engineer at ICON, you will be in a hands-on development and technical design role impacting the creation and support of well-designed, maintainable mechanical systems. This is a full-time, onsite role is based at ICON's Austin, TX office.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create design solutions with excellent engineering and documentation processes.
  • Design and create prototypes using in-house and external fabrication.
  • Perform engineering calculations to support design work.
  • Contribute to the development of systems through to handoff for product commercialization.
  • Drive engineering excellence and the adherence to the scientific method.
  • Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish technical specifications for designing or modifying products, processes, and materials.
  • Perform a wide range of tasks on a daily basis (e.g. Transition from office work to field work at a moment's notice).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of professional work experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of component manufacturing processes (including machining, rapid prototyping, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience leading large system development projects.
  • Proficiency using parametric solid modeling and CAD software to design and document parts and assemblies.
  • SolidWorks and PDM experience required.
  • Familiarity with making drawings and applicable drawing and tolerancing standards.
  • Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability.
  • Adept at communicating in a collaborative team environment and seeking optimum solutions with other team members.
  • Knowledge of the AGILE SCRUM methodology of project management.
  • A service-oriented attitude when in a support role.
  • Ability to prioritize and stay cool in a dynamic start-up environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Previous automation industry experience.
  • Previous start-up experience, and/or a resourceful innovative nature with an ability to streamline or develop efficient processes.
  • Professional experience with thermal and mechanical FEA, and topological optimization. Ansys or Solidworks simulation.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, and the ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Industrial safety system experience.
  • A hunger for learning and personal growth.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be prepared to work, in part, outdoors in challenging environments: temps > 100 degrees or below freezing, sun, rain, mud, lack of electricity, etc.
