Overview

Exciting opportunities and partnerships molding the future of space exploration have led to the need for Mechanical Engineers at Barrios Technology supporting multiple engineering disciplines, including robotics, structures, and mechanisms. Working alongside our commercial spaceflight partners, our team is positioned to contribute to the future of space exploration. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play in a role in various commercial space endeavors with our partners that include NASA, Intuitive Machines, Axiom Space, Lockheed Martin, and others.

 

Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Design the structural and mechanical components and assemblies of critical, cutting-edge spaceflight systems, applying expertise in engineering principles and techniques
  • Delivery of high-quality models, documentation, and drawings that meet customer requirements and engineering standards
  • Perform preliminary analysis (FEA and hand calculations) to demonstrate compliance with spaceflight design standards
  • Facilitate the manufacturing, assembly, and delivery of spaceflight hardware
  • Establish and lead working relationships with customer counterparts, requirement owners, and commercial teammates' key personnel to promote mission success
  • Perform all other assigned duties
Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school, plus five (5) years of related engineering experience
  • Mechanical design experience including complex assemblies and engineering drawings, and hardware production
  • Applied experience using CAD modeling software (Creo, NX, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • Applied experience creating engineering drawings to ASME Y14.5 (GD&T)
  • Experience working on cross-discipline engineering teams
  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills

Preferences:

  • Working experience with spaceflight
  • Applied experience using FEA modeling software (Ansys, Simcenter, etc…)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with requirement development, decomposition, documentation, and review
  • Project management or other leadership experience
  • Experience developing technical documentation
  • Working experience with Windchill
  • Working experience with product lifecycle management software
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering

Essential Requirements 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
  • Generally, an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
