Responsibilities

  • Design and develop HVAC and plumbing systems from conceptual phases to completion, inclusive of various systems like air-side/duct design and heating hot water.
  • Lead calculations for HVAC load, energy modeling, and life cycle cost analyses using specialized software.
  • Review and modify production drawings for diverse projects, focusing on aviation and government facilities.
  • Apply federal design guidelines in project planning and execution, ensuring compliance with UFC and UFGS standards.
  • Produce design documents using CAD software while gathering and compiling project-related data as required.
  • Conduct field inspections and perform measurements or calculations for both public and private clients.
  • Assist project managers with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and overall contract administration.

Description

The Mechanical Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of HVAC and plumbing projects primarily for aviation, government, and military facilities. The Mechanical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting HVAC and plumbing plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
  • Perform HVAC and plumbing design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion, covering various HVAC and plumbing systems: air-side/duct design, chilled and condenser water, heating hot water, steam, HVAC controls, domestic water, sanitary waste and vent and compressed gases.
  • Lead and perform HVAC load calculation and energy modeling calculations and life cycle cost analyses (LCCA) with IESVE or similar software (Trane Trace, Energy Pro, etc).
  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects primarily focusing on aviation, government, and military facilities but also including power plants, industrial, life science, and commercial facilities.
  • Exhibits understanding of and successfully applies in project planning and design federal design guidelines: Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used HVAC and plumbing engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the HVAC and plumbing engineering services industry: ASHRAE, ASPE, Title 24, IMC, and the IPC.
  • Design HVAC and plumbing components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Lead development of design documents in CAD software (Revit and AutoCAD).
  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for design projects.
  • Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program, and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required. Plumbing and HVAC experience preferred. OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required. Plumbing and HVAC experience preferred. OR
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 years of mechanical engineering experience required. Plumbing and HVAC experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) in writing of design reports and design calculations.
  • Strong engineering computer skills include AutoCAD, Revit, energy modeling (IESVE and Trane Trace), and hydraulic analysis (AFT Fathom, Elite Ductsizer).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License / Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.

Compensation

$105,000.00-220,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
