POSITION SUMMARY

Axiom Space is a fast‑paced, highly technical environment pushing the boundaries of human spaceflight and advanced engineering. We are seeking a driven, resilient, and detail‑oriented Mechanical Designer who thrives in complex, multidisciplinary settings. This role is ideal for someone who brings high energy, strong collaboration skills, and a passion for designing hardware that performs reliably in demanding conditions.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with various project teams and stakeholders

  • Design components and assemblies to meet project requirements

  • Design for manufacturability and maintenance

  • Create 3D CAD production models

  • Create 2D drawings using GD&T according to ASME Y14.5

  • Perform additional job duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in design, or related field, with 5-10 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Preferred experience in life support engineering or similar role

  • Proficient in 3D and 2D CAD environments (preferably, SolidWorks)

  • Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

  • Uses good judgement to problem-solve proactively, positively impacting hard challenges

  • Demonstrated organization skills to meet tight deadlines with high quality results

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
