Full Job Description
As a Marketing Communications Specialist for PCL's Defence Construction Group (DCG), based in Ottawa, Ontario, you'll have the opportunity to support all marketing and communications initiatives for the Defence Construction Group. Collaborating closely with the corporately-based Canadian Buildings Marketing and Communications (MarComm) team, this role helps align and expand opportunities that deliver impactful results for the DCG. A passion for storytelling, brand building, and delivering impactful campaigns across multiple channels will support strategic business priorities, enhance brand awareness, and strengthen the visibility and growth of the Defence Construction Group. Familiarity with Canadian federal government communications and public affairs processes and protocols will support success in this role.

The position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, supporting the marketing and communications initiatives of PCL's Defence Construction Group across Canada.

Responsibilities

Marketing:
  • Creates and executes measurable marketing plans for defence-related projects, pursuits, and strategic initiatives.
  • Creates and enhances brand awareness through the development of strategic marketing materials and campaigns.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders, creative teams, and external vendors to develop deliverables and execute marketing strategies aligned with PCL's brand standards.
  • Translates executive strategies, industry insights, and technical information into meaningful and accessible content for a variety of audiences.
  • Plans and participates in industry events focused on federal government and defence-related opportunities and projects.
  • Monitors and understands competitor differentiators and market trends to support strategic positioning and business growth.
  • Creates effective written content across multiple channels and provides advanced editing and proofreading services.


Communications:
  • Creates and executes measurable communication plans for defence projects, campaigns, events, and strategic initiatives across Canada.
  • Develops and delivers external communications, including news releases, website content, articles, and other communication materials.
  • Develops social media content and applies an understanding of platform-specific audiences, risks, and best practices.
  • Enhances brand awareness through internal and external communications initiatives.
  • Leads event communications and provides coordination and logistical support for key initiatives and activities.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports on media coverage, communication performance metrics, and engagement analytics.
  • Provides communications consultation and trusted advisory support to peers, leaders, and executives while managing the development, distribution, and performance reporting of the Defence Construction Group's internal newsletter.


Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, public affairs, or related roles.
  • Experience working with Canadian federal government communications, public affairs processes, and protocols.
  • Strong understanding of brand best practices and demonstrated ability to execute and communicate brand standards effectively.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a PSPC Level II (Secret) security clearance immediately after hiring.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is a requirement.
  • Working knowledge of data analytics and the ability to measure and evaluate marketing and communications performance.
  • Experience using a variety of marketing and communications channels, including web, print, advertising, video, and social media.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and related communications and design tools.
  • Strong storytelling, editing, proofreading, research, and content development skills with the ability to create audience-focused communications.
  • Ability to build relationships and act as a trusted communications advisor to peers, leaders, and executives.
  • Construction industry and B2B communications experience are considered assets.
  • Photography, videography, and graphic design experience are considered assets.

The estimated salary range for this role is $77,945.00 - $96,285.00, based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
