Job Description

The Marine Security Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and effective execution of shipboard security operations, management of security assets and security systems, and coordination of port security activities. This role oversees and ensures compliance with applicable international regulations, flag state, regional regulations and company security policies while supporting the consistent implementation of security programs across the fleet.

The Manager works closely with the Senior Director of Security, shipboard and shoreside stakeholders to monitor risks, address operational challenges, and enhance security performance. They provide guidance and support to shipboard leadership, shipboard security teams, promote standardization of procedures, and drive continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining a high level of security readiness and response. The role also contributes to departmental planning for both financial and programmatic plans. They also represent marine security interests in cross-functional working groups and industry/government forums as required. The ideal candidate brings strong maritime security experience, solid operational leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across a dynamic fleet environment..

Responsibilities:

Ship Security Operational Support

• Provide oversight and guidance for shipboard operations and procedures across the fleet, ensuring standardization and adherence to international and regional regulations including ISPS and CVSSA as well as company policies and procedures. Monitor incident trends and support the development of mitigation strategies. They also oversee the implementation of new technologies and procedures to enhance onboard security. Regular reporting and documentation are maintained to support audits and internal reviews. The position requires balancing regulatory requirements with operational realities to ensure passenger and crew safety. Continuous evaluation of security infrastructure helps identify areas for improvement and innovation. These duties include but are not limited to:
• Oversee the Traka electronic key control system across all PCL ships, ensuring full functionality, standardization and compliance with policy.
• Maintain operational oversight of shipboard security assets and systems, promptly addressing equipment issues and coordinating vendor support.
• Manage the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS), including registration, programming, and semiannual testing, ensuring timely corrective actions.
• Support the shipboard Breath Alcohol Testing program through training and guidance for staff.

Port Security Operational Support

• This accountability involves supporting the Director, Fleet Security in managing security-related risks at ports and destinations. The Manager helps assess vulnerabilities associated with shore excursions and port visits, ensuring appropriate countermeasures are in place. They collaborate with port facility security officers to maintain seamless communication and alignment with local protocols. Oversee Port Facility Security Assessments (PFSA) conducted by shipboard Security staff, ensuring timely submission and compliance with required periodicity. Review and edit PFSA reports to ensure completeness and accuracy, publishing finalized reports for Ship Security Officers' reference and ensuring awareness across the fleet. Provide feedback to Ship Security Officers to improve reports and their content. Identify ports requiring additional security assessment support and coordinate resources with Carnival Corporation and other stakeholders.

Policy Development / Compliance

• This accountability focuses on maintaining and updating Ship Security Plans (SSPs) and fleet-wide security regulations. The Manager leads to interpreting and implementing guidance from international, flag states, regional authorities, and Carnival Corporation. They ensure that shipboard teams are informed of policy changes and understand their responsibilities. The role includes reviewing internal and external audits and addressing findings and implementing corrective actions. The Manager contributes to the development of new policies that reflect industry best practices and regulatory updates. They maintain documentation standards to support compliance and transparency. Collaboration with legal and regulatory teams ensures alignment with international maritime laws. Coordinates regular reviews of Security policies, gathering input from Ship Security Officers and Fleet Security staff to assess policy effectiveness. Lead policy review sessions, draft updates, and ensure timely publication of revisions to provide clear guidance for shipboard Security operations.

Strategic Planning Support / Cost Control

• The Manager will monitor industry trends, emerging threats, and technological advancements to inform strategic security planning. They analyze incident data to identify patterns and recommend resource adjustments. Prepare budget proposals and monitor Security-related repair and maintenance (R&M) expenditures as well as capital expenditures (CAPEX) for Fleet and shipboard Security teams. Coordinate scheduling and track completion of Security R&M as well as CAPEX projects, ensuring thorough documentation at each stage. The Manager reviews security-related contracts and works with Purchasing to identify cost-saving opportunities. They ensure that expenditures align with operational priorities and compliance needs

Miscellaneous

• Manage the Corporate ID program for shoreside employees, overseeing application processing, ID card creation and distribution, and maintenance of ID holders to ensure access is limited to active, authorized personnel.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Scope: Manages fleet security programs under the position's purview and coordinates between shipboard and shoreside departments to ensure that security programs address all areas upon which security operation have an impact.
• Problem solving: Identifies issues related to security equipment or procedures and determines the appropriate level to address identified issues. Implements corrective action for programs under positions authority and recommends to Sr. Director, Fleet Security corrective measures for programs of a fleet wide nature.
• Impact: Position ensures company and vessel compliance with regulatory requirements as well as with corporate guidance.
• Leadership: This role provides leadership for the Princess Maritime Security team, encompassing the shipboard Security teams and the Fleet Security Training Officers. The Manager is accountable for establishing clear direction, setting performance expectations, and ensuring consistent execution of security operations across the fleet. Through strong leadership and effective oversight, the role drives alignment with corporate security standards, regulatory requirements, and operational priorities. The Manager oversees the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of security training programs, workforce planning, and career progression pathways, ensuring the division maintains a highly capable and ready workforce. They also exercise financial stewardship by monitoring divisional expenditures, identifying operational efficiencies, and optimizing resource allocation across security functions. Acting as a key extension of the Company Security Officer (CSO), the Manager executes strategic security initiatives and ensures continuity of leadership during periods of increased operational demand or absence. The role leads cross-functional coordination with departments such as Fleet Personnel, Purchasing, and other operational stakeholders to enable integrated, enterprise-wide security planning. By fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement, the Manager ensures the division operates at a high level of performance, resilience, and regulatory compliance across the fleet.

Essential/Minimum Qualifications:

• Knowledge and skills related to use of / and training in security, surveillance, and screening equipment.
• Proficient in the use of computers and associated applications
• Ability to analyze security infrastructure and procedures and provide an assessment to senior management.
• Ability to prepare comprehensive reports
• Ability to train staff in the operation of security systems

Essential experience required:

• Practical experience in National/Homeland Security, Maritime Transportation Management or related field (BS or equivalent industry experience preferred). Five years or equivalent industry experience as a Ship Security Officer, law enforcement officer (e.g., police officer, FBI, etc.), Port Facility Security Officer or service in a maritime military organization (e.g., U.S. Coast Guard, Royal Marines, etc.). Government ISPS/MTSA regulatory experience strongly preferred. Certification as a PFSO/FSO and/or SSO preferred

Travel: Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions: Work beyond normal business hours or on weekends may be required occasionally to support business needs, projects, or operations.

Physical Demands: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

** This position is classified as "in-office." As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Princess office Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays.
