DescriptionHOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT The Manufacturing Engineer II is a hands-on, intermediate-level engineer responsible for developing, sustaining, troubleshooting, and improving manufacturing processes for precision mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical products. The engineer supports daily production, new product introduction (NPI), product transfers, tooling and fixture readiness, process documentation, engineering changes, and continuous improvement. The role emphasizes manufacturing process ownership and uses hardware test troubleshooting as a supporting capability, not its primary function.
The engineer independently resolves routine to moderately complex manufacturing issues, uses data and sound engineering judgment to identify root causes, implements and verifies corrective actions, and escalates high-risk or design-authority decisions as appropriate.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKEManufacturing Engineering and Production Support (approximately 70%)- Provide daily engineering support to production teams; resolve assembly, workmanship, process, tooling, fixture, material, and documentation issues to minimize downtime and rework.
- Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes, routing, work instructions, process flow diagrams, assembly methods, and standardized work in accordance with approved engineering requirements.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, tolerances, and change notices; translate product requirements into repeatable and practical manufacturing methods.
- Support NPI, pilot builds, product transfers, process qualifications, and manufacturing readiness, including identification and closure of build risks and action items.
- Evaluate and implement engineering changes (ECO/ECN) with consideration for WIP, inventory, tooling, fixtures, documentation, training, and production cutover.
- Specify, evaluate, and improve manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and equipment, coordinate maintenance, calibration, and validation as applicable.
- Partner with Quality and Operations to investigate nonconformances, assess technical dispositions within delegated authority, and implement effective containment and corrective actions.
Process Improvement, Quality and Operational Performance (approximately 20%)- Analyze scrap, rework, first-pass yield (FPY), cycle time, throughput, defects, and process capability to prioritize improvements and confirm results.
- Apply structured problem-solving tools such as 5-Why, fishbone, 8D, and CAPA, document evidence, corrective actions, verification, and closure.
- Lead or contribute to practical Lean and continuous improvement projects, including waste reduction, error-proofing, standardization, and process stability.
- Support risk assessment and process controls using PFMEA, Process flow diagrams, GR & R control plans, or equivalent tools where applicable; coordinate with Quality on inspection and acceptance requirements.
Manufacturing Test and Cross-Functional Technical Support (approximately 10%)- Support production test and inspection processes, including basic hardware troubleshooting, test fixture issues, test failures, and coordination with Test Engineering or design owners.
- Use appropriate diagnostic instruments and manufacturing/test data to distinguish product, process, material, workmanship, and fixture-related issues.
- Communicate technical findings and action status to technicians, engineers, suppliers, customers, and management, train production personnel on revised methods and instructions.
- Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.
- Achievement of objectives must include an over-riding commitment to quality that must permeate the areas of responsibility.
- Enable and Drive Change in the Organization.
Not a comprehensive list of duties. Duties may change without notice at management's sole discretionWHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL - Bachelor's or Master's degree in manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.
- 4 - 6 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment, with demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot moderately complex manufacturing and process issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions. Experience supporting production operations, process improvements, engineering changes, manufacturing documentation, NPI, and cross-functional problem-solving.
- Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, PFMEA, SPC, process validation, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with semiconductor equipment, precision assembly, electromechanical systems, automation, or high-mix/low-volume manufacturing is preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, CAD, tooling and fixtures, supplier coordination, and electrical/electromechanical manufacturing test equipment is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assigned engineering activities, implement, and verify improvements, and achieve measurable results in quality, first-pass yield (FPY), scrap, rework, cycle time, RMAs, or equipment downtime.
- Strong technical communication, documentation, analytical problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with sound engineering judgment and appropriate escalation of critical issues.
