About the Role:

LS Power is seeking a Manager, Transmission Planning to support and lead transmission planning activities across the company's growing portfolio of transmission development and operating assets. This individual will be responsible for conducting and overseeing complex power system studies, identifying transmission system needs and development opportunities, and providing technical leadership in support of new project development, interconnection activities, and existing utility operations across the United States. This role is based in St. Louis, MO; remote work may be considered for the right candidate.

The Manager will serve as a key technical resource within the Transmission Planning team, working closely with internal Development, Engineering, Regulatory, and Operations teams, as well as external utilities, consultants, and ISO/RTO stakeholders.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Lead and perform complex power system modeling and simulations, including load flow, short circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transient, and production cost studies.
  • Lead transmission planning studies to identify system needs, constraints, and opportunities for reliability and economic enhancements that support LS Power's transmission development initiatives.
  • Develop and evaluate transmission solutions and provide technical recommendations to support project development and investment decisions.
  • Manage, coordinate, review, and interpret interconnection and transmission studies performed by utilities, ISO/RTOs, consultants, and other external parties.
  • Lead technical activities associated with generation and transmission interconnection processes across applicable ISO/RTO regions.
  • Provide transmission planning expertise in support of project development, acquisitions, due diligence, and evaluation of transmission system opportunities across NERC regions.
  • Support transmission asset operations and applicable regulatory and reliability compliance activities.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Development, Engineering, Regulatory, Operations, and other internal stakeholders to advance transmission projects and initiatives.
  • Represent LS Power's interests before ISO/RTOs and on appropriate regional and national committees, working groups, and industry task forces.
  • Monitor developments in FERC transmission policy, Open Access Transmission Tariffs, NERC reliability requirements, and evolving ISO/RTO transmission planning and interconnection processes.
  • Manage relationships and coordinate technical work with external consultants and other third-party stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate complex study results, system risks, opportunities, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and other team members and contribute to the development of transmission planning best practices.
Qualifications

  • Have demonstrated experience independently performing, reviewing, and interpreting power flow, short circuit, transient stability, and other transmission planning studies.
  • Have strong working knowledge of transmission planning principles, NERC reliability standards, FERC transmission policy, and ISO/RTO planning and interconnection processes.
  • Have hands-on experience with industry planning and modeling tools such as PSS4E, TARA, PowerWorld, GE PSLF, and/or comparable software.
  • Have experience working within one or more ISO/RTO regions and understand regional transmission planning and interconnection processes.
  • Have demonstrated ability to lead complex technical assignments and provide sound recommendations based on study results.
  • Have experience coordinating with utilities, consultants, ISO/RTOs, and other external stakeholders.
  • Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Can effectively communicate complex technical concepts and recommendations to a variety of audiences.
  • Are comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to other engineers.
Ideally, You Have
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering; an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering with a power systems concentration is preferred.
  • 6 6 years of direct experience in transmission planning, power system studies, transmission development, or a closely related power systems discipline
