Job Summary

The Manager - Emergency Services is responsible for operational and clinical management of the Emergency Department (ED), ensuring consistent, high-quality patient care through effective resource utilization, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance. The Manager collaborates with clinical and administrative leaders to develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives aligned with the hospital's mission and standards of excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees daily operations of the Emergency Department, including staffing, workflows, and resource allocation.
  • Develops departmental objectives and performance metrics; evaluates staff competency and supports continuing education.
  • Ensures delivery of safe, timely, and evidence-based care to patients across the age spectrum, from neonates to older adults.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA).
  • Participates in the development and implementation of nursing programs and quality initiatives.
  • Serves as a role model for service excellence, teamwork, and evidence-based practice.
  • Manages and resolves patient and staff concerns; supports a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Participates in budget planning, supply chain coordination, and cost management strategies.
  • Communicates hospital and departmental goals clearly to all staff and fosters a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
  • Supports emergency preparedness and infection control protocols, including adherence to the Exposure Control Plan.
  • Engages in leadership development, hospital committees, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, lifting/moving patients or supplies (0-75 lbs).
  • Frequent use of computers, standing, walking, and performing assessments.
  • Visual, auditory, and communication abilities required for patient care and emergency response.
  • Emergency Department setting with potential exposure to biohazardous materials, communicable diseases, and hazardous chemicals.
  • High-acuity, fast-paced clinical environment with rotating shifts or on-call duties as needed.


Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.


Licenses/Certifications

  • Current RN license in the state of practice required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.


Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an Emergency Department clinical setting required.
