Job Description

The Manager, Performance Improvement and Project Management Office (PI/PMO) provides strategic and operational leadership for UC Health's enterprise project management and performance improvement functions. This role oversees the Project Management Office team (Project Managers and Project Portfolio Managers) and the Performance Improvement Team (PI consultants, Senior PI Specialists, and PI Specialists). The manager ensures consistent use of PMO methodologies, PI improvement science, data-driven decision-making, and reliable execution of strategic, operational, and clinical priorities. This position builds system capability in project management, improvement science, and change management through governance, coaching, standardization, and collaboration with leaders across UC Health.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership of PMO & PI Team:
• Provide direct leadership, coaching and development for PMO and PI team members.
• Ensure consistent methodology, quality of work, documentation standards and customer service.
• Oversee resource allocation, portfolio alignment and work distribution across both teams.
• Enhance system partnerships with project management, data, IT and operations leadership to ensure effective execution of work and reduce silos.

Project, Portfolio and Improvement Oversight:
• Provide governance and oversight for enterprise and downstream project portfolios.
• Ensure effective scoping, project planning, risk mitigation, execution and closeout.
• Guide leaders in tracking success metrics, analyzing data, and identifying improvement opportunities.

Performance Improvement Leadership:
• Ensure PI staff coach, mentor and support frontline teams using the UC Health PI Way
• Lead development and spread of improvement capability, standardized tools and training.
• Partner with Performance Management Director, operators and leaders to ensure improvement initiatives achieve reliable sustainable outcomes.

Strategic Prioritization and Alignment:
• Partner with Performance Management Director to prioritize portfolios and performance improvement work.
• Ensure alignment with strategic frameworks, clinical domains, system goals, and operational plans.
• Recommend prioritization decisions based on team capacity, impact and enterprise needs.
• Communicate portfolio and improvement progress, barriers, and achievement to stakeholders.
• Build strong relationships with clinical and nonclinical leaders to support execution success.
• Serve as an internal expert and connector across departments.

Qualifications

Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree - Business, Healthcare, Engineering, Public Health or related field. Preferred: Master's Degree - Business, Healthcare, Engineering, Public Health or related field.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, PMP, or CPHQ preferred. At least one (PMO or PI Certification) required within 12 months of hire. | Minimum Required: Willing to certify, license or graduate within 12 months.
