Basic Function

SB Energy is seeking a Manager with deep industry experience to lead the technical program management for owner-furnished, contractor-installed (OFCI) power and cooling equipment. You will own the integrated execution schedule and the workflow for technical risks, decisions, dependencies, design evolution and changes across equipment packages.

You will collaborate with SB Energy's clients, OEMs, and vendors to deliver reliable and fast solutions with the best total cost of ownership (TCO) through sound technical decisions, change management, risk management and value engineering programs, controlling avoidable design change, churn, delays and rework. From day one, you will make independent execution decisions within delegated authority and coordinate approved roadmap and multi-sourcing initiatives. Eventually, you will build a team with sufficient program management capacity to deliver seamlessly across projects and equipment packages across.

Responsibilities

Equipment coverage includes but is not limited to the categories below.

Power equipment
  • Distribution: MV/LV switchgear, ring main units, switchboards, panelboards, standalone motor-control centers/drives and, power transformers, distribution transformers, and isolation transformers.
  • Backup generation and stored power: generators and integral fuel, starting, and exhaust auxiliaries; paralleling gear; MV/LV UPS; batteries/BESS; chargers and DC power systems.
  • Transfer and final distribution: ATS/STS, busway/busduct, power distribution units, remote power panels, rack PDUs, and power cables and terminations.
  • Packaged power: electrical skids, e-houses, modular power blocks, and packaged substations downstream of the HV substation.
  • Protection and monitoring: relays, metering, electrical power management systems, control panels, power-quality equipment, surge protection, grounding assemblies, and load banks.

Cooling equipment
  • Cooling and heat rejection: air- and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, dry coolers, adiabatic/fluid coolers, and heat exchangers.
  • Airside cooling: CRAH/CRAC units, air-handling units, fan walls, in-row cooling, and rear-door heat exchangers.
  • Liquid cooling: coolant distribution units, direct-to-chip and immersion cooling packages, manifolds, cold plates, hoses, and quick disconnects.
  • Hydronics and water: pumps and integral drives, piping/valve skids, strainers, buffer/expansion/storage tanks, pressurization, makeup water, filtration, and water treatment.
  • Packaged cooling: modular plants and cooling skids, integral controls, instrumentation, and leak detection.

Role accountabilities
  • Lead technical program management across multiple projects and stakeholders with clear program definitions, critical milestones, and business priorities.
  • Own the integrated technical execution schedule from supplier reviews and qualification through manufacturing readiness, testing, and acceptance. Link package milestones to project delivery dates and the portfolio priorities supplied by Integrated Business Planning (IBP).
  • Own the risk, action, decision, dependency, and change-control workflow. Assign accountable owners and decision dates, link to Supplier Engineering's controlled evidence, and drive closure without duplicating technical records or approvals.
  • Coordinate client and vendor technical reviews and readiness gates. Supplier Engineering verifies assurance evidence; Electrical and Mechanical make technical decisions. Ensure outcomes, owners, and follow-up actions are explicit.
  • Consolidate change impacts from domain engineers, supplier assurance, Category Procurement, and IBP. Assess execution dependencies and recovery options, secure accountable decisions, and maintain the integrated change and decision history.
  • Own execution of sequencing and recovery of coordination within delegated authority. Quantify acceleration, rework, and delay costs with clients and vendors. Category Procurement retains factory/test schedule of escalation of accountability and commercial commitments.
  • Schedule approved product-roadmap releases, pilots, fungibility validation, and second-source introductions. Track dependencies and milestones against acceptance criteria defined by technical owners; maintain visibility of effects on TCO and delivery.
  • Provide package readiness dates and execution risks to Integrated Business Planning IBP and use its agreed demand priorities. Publish program status, decision aging, critical-path exposure, and recovery progress; IBP owns demand, supply scenarios, and portfolio allocation planning, in collaboration with the Category Management/Sourcing team.
  • Improve execution through practical automation and lessons learned. Electrical/Mechanical own product decisions; Supplier Engineering owns OEM/factory qualification and evidence; Engineering/EOR owns project design; Quality and Construction/Commissioning retains their functional accountability.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, supply chain, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience required. Advanced study or PMP/PgMP certification is preferred.
  • 10+ years in technical program or project management, with substantial responsibility for OFCI or comparable long-lead equipment programs serving data centers.
  • Strong technical program management expertise and success building and leading program teams. Experience hiring, coaching, managing performance, delegating ownership, and allocating resources across concurrent programs.
  • Extensive OEM program experience involving engineering, manufacturing, and testing. Understanding how submittals, design freezes, component constraints, factory capacity, and acceptance affect equipment delivery.
  • Strong power and cooling systems fluency to challenge assumptions, identify technical dependencies, and frame decisions with senior engineers while respecting technical approval authority.
  • A record of recovering threatened milestones across concurrent programs, adapting to changing requirements, and making independent prioritization and resource decisions under ambiguity.
  • Commercial judgment in acceleration, rework, scope changes, contractual milestones, TCO, and cost-of-delay exposure. Ability to present actionable recommendations from incomplete or conflicting inputs.
  • Expertise in critical-path scheduling, risk/change management, and executive reporting. Proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent planning tools.
  • Experience coordinating product introductions and alternate-source qualifications. Credibility with clients, OEMs, and vendors. Willingness to travel to factories, client locations, and project sites, including internationally.


Working arrangements

Assignments may span projects, equipment categories, suppliers, and locations and may change with business needs. The role includes supplier, factory, warehouse, and active construction site visits, coordination across time zones, and compliance with site safety and access requirements. Managers lead execution through qualified suppliers and project resources.

Location: Redwood City, Denver, San Diego, Austin.

Remote may be considered on case-by-case basis

Base Pay - $140,000 - $170,000
