Manager of Surgical Services

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Manager of Surgical Services to oversee the daily clinical and operational activities of our fertility center's surgical services.

The Manager of Surgical Services will provide leadership for the perioperative team and oversee the delivery of safe, efficient, and compassionate care for patients undergoing fertility-related procedures. This position will work closely with reproductive endocrinologists, physicians, anesthesiologists, embryology staff, nurses, medical assistants, and other members of the fertility care team to ensure a seamless patient experience.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent clinical judgment, and experience in perioperative nursing, ambulatory surgery, PACU, or a fertility/IVF setting. Sensitivity to the emotional and personal nature of fertility treatment is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations of the fertility center's surgical and procedure areas.
  • Provide clinical leadership and direction to nursing and perioperative staff.
  • Oversee patient care for fertility-related procedures, including pre-operative preparation, procedure recovery, and discharge.
  • Ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and individualized care throughout their surgical experience.
  • Coordinate with reproductive endocrinologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, embryologists, and clinical staff to support efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
  • Develop staff schedules and ensure appropriate staffing levels and coverage based on daily procedure volume.
  • Hire, train, orient, supervise, and evaluate nursing and surgical services staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, education, and professional development for staff.
  • Monitor staff competencies and ensure compliance with clinical and procedural standards.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of patient documentation, including medical histories, physicals, consents, allergies, medication reconciliation, pre-op assessments, recovery documentation, and discharge instructions.
  • Ensure patients and families understand procedures, medications, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
  • Monitor patients during the pre-operative and recovery phases and ensure appropriate escalation of clinical concerns.
  • Promote a positive and supportive environment for patients undergoing fertility treatment, recognizing the emotional and sensitive nature of reproductive care.
  • Monitor patient safety, quality of care, clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
  • Investigate incidents, identify trends, and implement appropriate corrective and quality improvement measures.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable Connecticut Department of Public Health, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, HIPAA, OSHA, and infection prevention requirements.
  • Ensure staff follow infection control practices, universal precautions, medication safety requirements, and bloodborne pathogen protocols.
  • Maintain appropriate emergency preparedness and ensure staff are trained to respond to urgent and emergent situations.

Fertility & Surgical Services Experience

Experience in a fertility or reproductive medicine setting is strongly preferred. The Manager should have an understanding of the unique clinical and emotional needs of patients undergoing fertility treatment and procedures.

Experience with IVF and fertility-related procedures, ambulatory surgery, PACU, pre-operative nursing, anesthesia recovery, or other procedural settings is highly desirable.

Education & Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in perioperative, ambulatory surgery, PACU, reproductive medicine, or fertility services.
  • Previous nursing leadership, supervisory, or management experience required or strongly preferred.
  • Fertility/IVF experience preferred.
  • Current BLS/CPR and ACLS certification.
  • CNOR certification preferred.
  • Experience with quality improvement, infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and patient safety preferred.
