Essential Functions
The Manager of Risk Management provides strategic and operational leadership for Zeal Credit Union's Risk Management and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)functions, aligning departmental priorities with organizational strategy, growth plans, and regulatory responsibilities. Serving as the designated BSA Officer, this role delivers comprehensive oversight for all BSA/AML/OFAC/CIP and USA PATRIOT Actprograms, which includes managing annual risk assessments, continuously improving compliance policies, and ensuring the accurate, timely submission of CTRs, SARs, FinCEN 314(a)/314(b), and OFAC reporting. To safeguard the institution, the Manager develops robust fraud-prevention strategies and establishes consistent investigative frameworks to evaluate, document, and mitigate threats affecting Zeal, its members, or its business interests. This leadership position actively partners across all departments to embed risk considerations into new products, services, vendors, and strategic initiatives, while managing external relationships with law enforcement, auditors, and regulators. Operationally, the Manager coordinates responses to search warrants, oversees criminal investigations, and leads federal or state regulatory examinations from preparation through sustainable remediation. As a core member of Zeal's leadership team, the individual fosters organizational risk awareness through employee education, continuously optimizes workflows and monitoring technology to drive automation, and dedicates significant focus to leading, coaching, and building bench strength within the risk management team.
Qualifications
Required:
• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, BSA/AML, fraud, compliance, financial services, or a related field.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations, and regulatory expectations pertaining to Risk Management, BSA/AML, OFAC, fraud prevention, and related areas.
• Strong strategic, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, assess risk, determine root causes, and develop practical recommendations.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound business judgment, translate complex risk information into business implications, and prioritize competing risks based on organizational impact.
• Demonstrated leadership and people-development skills, including coaching, performance management, accountability, collaboration, influence, and strong written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication.
Preferred:
• Experience working with financial institution regulators, independent auditors, law enforcement, financial-crime investigations, and related hearings.
• Ability to read, interpret, and operationalize complex regulations, guidance, and other documents impacting Risk Management.
• Experience using advanced investigative techniques, risk/fraud data, monitoring systems, and trend analysis to validate information and improve risk identification and decision-making.
