Manager - Mill Business Unit Pulp

Ticonderoga Mill

This position reports to the Operations Manager and is lead for the Pulp area. This position is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the Woodyard, Recaust and Pulp mill areas. This position is a Lead Team position.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Lead all Business Unit activities in the Pulp area in an engaged manner that is favorable to all budget and availability expectations. Work closely with the other mill Business Unit personnel in achieving mill objectives.
  • Responsible for the safety performance of all colleagues, contractors, suppliers and visitors in the Pulp, Recaust and Woodyard areas.
  • Provide safety leadership; lead, by example, the safety processes for the pulp area including safety work systems, utilizing safety leading indicators, KES corrective action plans, operator safety training, and environmental policies.
  • Maintains high expectations and standards around housekeeping.
  • Accountable for all area environmental and regulatory requirements and ensures proper and accurate reporting takes place.
  • Responsible for coordination of all operation, maintenance and engineering activities within the department
  • Direct supervision of area managers and supervisors in department and responsible for department performance management and individual development.
  • Accountable for managing all department direct and indirect costs.
  • Responsible for meeting established production and efficiency targets.
  • Responsible for maintaining top maintenance standards around basic care, preventative and predictive maintenance, and failure analysis. Ensures proper follow up on root cause action items.
  • Identifies and promotes key area capital investments and drives them from conception to implementation.
  • Maintains oversight of all employee engagement, employee relations, one-to-one compliance and impact plans are maintained adequately.
  • Manage Union Relations for the department.


Knowledge and Experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years paper manufacturing industry experience, preferred leadership in Pulp Mill area.
  • Technical or relevant Bachelor's Degree preferably chemical, mechanical or related degree.
  • Must possess a solid understanding of the Pulp Mill Area and a thorough knowledge of continuous digesters, pulp screening, washing and bleaching. This includes key understandings of the critical parameters that impact safety, environmental, costs, quality, and customers.
  • Experience and knowledge of Woodyard and Recaust operations and PSM (Process Safety Management), is also desired.
  • Knowledge of maintenance planning, contract administration and purchasing functions.
  • Proven Leadership of hourly and salary employees
