Responsibilities

Full Job Description
We are seeking a Regional Project Lead for our IG South PROS (Project Resources and Outage Support) team located in Pasadena, TX or Gonzales, LA. This position requires up to 20% domestic travel. This position leads a capital projects team that covers 150+ plants in the United States Southeast region.

This role reports to the North America Project Engineering Manager. The essential functions of this role include:

  • Run all functions of a Project Engineering team including day-to-day management of Project Engineers and Construction Managers.
  • Responsible for ensuring all parts of the project process are followed within the region from initiation through project close out.
  • Main point of contact between the operational facilities, business area partners, maintenance, and the project engineering team.
  • Leads workload of all employees including up to 7 Project Engineers (consisting of direct and contingent worker personnel).
  • Work with maintenance team to supervise and forecast execution of all maintenance led capital projects.
  • Handles appropriate staffing levels for the region to meet project demand including engineering team resources required for efficient project execution.
  • Participate in the TAR planning process and ensure staffing is appropriate to complete capital projects in large plant turnarounds.
  • Mentor Project Engineers through their careers.
  • Review all funding requests and project estimates prior to issuance for approval.
  • Ensure all projects receive adequate operability and hazard reviews and that all recommendations are completed in a timely manner and detailed appropriately.
  • Ensure process safety is adhered to on all project invent.
  • Coordinate regional contractor development strategy through partnership with Air Products procurement team.
  • Coordinate regional contingent worker strategy working through the VNDLY system.
  • Evaluate bid tabs for major contracts prior to bid award.
  • Manage Project Safety and ensure accurate communication protocols are followed.
  • Prepare and lead monthly safety meetings for the region presenting various incidents across the fleet and apply findings.
  • Responsible for leading the Capital Project forecast and capital plan (development and execution) for the region, near-term and long-term.
  • Ensure all projects meet the operability needs of the customer.
  • Gain a basic understanding of the operating plant environment, process and equipment.
  • Lead monthly project status and gatekeeping meetings for the region with all partners in the region.
  • Understand quality standards as outlined by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
  • Maintain accurate status of sub-region key performance indicators to stay aware of region and team performance.

Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Manufacturing plant operations, maintenance, or capital projects experience (10 years minimum).
  • Strong project management experience in project development and planning, estimating and forecasting, and execution and turnover.
  • Strong leadership abilities.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and planning skills.
  • Self-motivated and willingness to learn and improve.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Willing to work a wide variety of scheduled days and hours.
  • Plant outage experience.
  • Works authoritatively and collaboratively with employees, peers, management, support personnel, program participants and business area personnel.
  • Applies positive and constructive demeanor toward resolution of problems and conflicts.
  • Accepts direction, constructive feedback, and supervision.
  • Understands that project safety and execution shall follow APCI standards and policies.
  • Keep software tools and databases, used to own the project sub-region, current.
  • Has excellent SAP skills within the Project System roles.

Education and Licensing Requirements:
  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred

Work Hours & Benefits:
Typical work week is 40 hours. Longer hours may be required during project or outage execution which may also require working some weekends. Travel may be required to different regions in the Southeast United States. The work environment is diverse from an office setting to onsite at Air Products operating facilities to visiting contractor shops. The ability to walk around a plant, supervise contractors, climb stairs and ladders is required.
