Full Job Description
Position Overview:

The Manager, General Ledger Accounting, is responsible for managing the general ledger accounting function and supporting an accurate, timely, and well-controlled monthly, quarterly, and annual close. This role oversees key close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, balance sheet reviews, close calendar execution, and related internal controls. The position partners closely with Accounting and Finance leadership and cross-functional teams to improve close quality, strengthen processes, support audit requirements, and ensure consistent application of U.S. GAAP across assigned accounting areas.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close calendar, working closely with AP, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Inventory/Cost Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Tax, Treasury, SEC Reporting, and Operations.
  • Lead general ledger close activities in accordance with the close calendar, ensuring assigned tasks are completed accurately, timely, and with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Review, approve, and/or prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and internal control documentation for assigned accounting areas.
  • Oversee timely resolution of open items in reconciliations, including follow-up with business partners and accounting workstreams as needed.
  • Analyze financial results and account activity to identify trends, classification issues, unusual transactions, or potential close matters requiring follow-up.
  • Partner with AP, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Inventory/Cost Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, and Operations to support complete and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls over assigned accounting areas, including SOX control execution, review evidence, segregation of duties, and timely remediation of control or process issues.
  • Support internal and external audit requests by providing schedules, reconciliations, explanations, and other documentation in a clear and timely manner.
  • Use accounting and finance systems, including SAP, Blackline, Power BI, OneStream, Microsoft Office products, and other close or reporting tools, to execute work efficiently and improve process visibility.


  • Manage assigned accounting areas and provide coaching, review, and prioritization support to accounting team members.
  • Serve as a primary contact for the general ledger close process, including coordination of close timelines, status updates, and issue escalation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase close efficiency, reconciliation quality, control effectiveness, and scalability.
  • Participate as a key stakeholder in accounting system implementations, configuration changes, and process design initiatives affecting the general ledger close.
  • Assist Accounting leadership with financial presentations, ad hoc analyses, special projects, and other accounting matters as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA license.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in general ledger, corporate accounting, or similar areas at a publicly traded company, and/or Big 4 public accounting experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, mining, industrial, or other complex operating environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial accounting concepts, account reconciliations, journal entry review, and month-end close processes.
  • Experience supporting internal controls, SOX compliance, external audits, and financial reporting requirements in a public-company or similarly controlled environment.
  • Prior people leadership experience or strong readiness to lead and develop a team.
  • Ability to prioritize, think strategically and exercise sound judgment.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (preferably SAP S/4HANA), financial reporting tools (e.g., OneStream, Hyperion), and/or lease accounting software.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
