POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Manager Equipment & Maintenance Reliability is responsible for building maintenance and technical capability across Polymer Center facilities to improve equipment reliability, support growth, and reduce operational losses. The incumbent provides hands-on leadership, develops maintenance and operations personnel, and serves as a subject matter expert for recycling equipment and OEM systems, partnering directly with plant teams to drive sustainable performance improvements. The Manager Equipment & Maintenance Reliability may be based in Las Vegas, NV, Indianapolis, IN, or Allentown, PA and requires extensive travel to support locations across the network.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Promotes a strong safety culture through adherence to company policies, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Ensures maintenance activities comply with all applicable local, state, federal, and company requirements.
- Builds technical capability within maintenance and operations teams through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on training.
- Recruits, develops, and supports maintenance personnel to effectively troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex equipment.
- Leads one-on-one and small-group technical training sessions on the plant floor.
- Assesses team capabilities and identifies development opportunities to strengthen organizational effectiveness.
- Diagnoses and resolves complex equipment issues while driving continuous improvement in maintenance processes and asset reliability.
- Supports plant teams during critical equipment failures and provides hands-on assistance when required.
- Applies structured troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving methodologies to eliminate recurring failures.
- Partners with sites to optimize preventive maintenance programs and improve equipment performance.
- Develops and delivers technical training programs for operators and maintenance personnel across all plant asset types.
- Serves as a technical resource for plant teams by teaching structured troubleshooting practices and building long-term self-sufficiency. Builds the capability needed to diagnose issues accurately instead of relying on temporary fixes or outside support.
- Provides expertise across a broad range of recycling and process equipment, including dryers, conveyors, grinders, pumps, motors, shredders, optical sorters, balers, washers, chillers, air compressors, and related systems.
- Supports maintenance budget planning and resource allocation efforts.
- Partners with leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining operational effectiveness.
- Supports the development and execution of response plans for significant equipment failures and operational disruptions.
- Coordinates with plant leadership to minimize downtime and restore production safely and efficiently.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, equipment histories, inspection reports, and work orders. Generates regular reports for management review.
- Prepares and delivers reports and performance updates for leadership review.
- Assists plant teams with PM optimization to drive improved asset reliability.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience in recycling, plastics, or packaging manufacturing environments.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Budget management experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and capable of influencing positive organizational change.
- Ability to work throughout plant environments and safely handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to evaluate team strengths and development needs.
- Professionalism, accountability, and commitment to operational excellence.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: - 4 - 7 years of manufacturing experience with strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems.
- 4 - 7 years of maintenance leadership or technical maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting expertise in industrial manufacturing environments.
- Ability to travel up to 75% - 100% to designated plant locations.
