This role combines people leadership, technical expertise, and business partnership. The Manager works with commercial, clinical, operational, and technology stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable dashboards, reports, data products, and analytical solutions. The role is also responsible for establishing reporting standards, improving the usability and consistency of the reporting environment, managing demand and priorities, and ensuring the organization can confidently use data to support decision-making.

The Manager intentionally grows the engineering capabilities of the team over time, helping reporting and business intelligence developers build the skills and practices needed to deliver increasingly scalable, reusable, automated, and engineering-oriented data and analytics solutions.

This role requires consistent onsite presence in Madison, WI up to four days a week.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of analytics and reporting developers, business intelligence professionals, and data engineers supporting Tableau, Epic Clarity, Databricks, and related enterprise data and reporting technologies.
  • Organize and prioritize team responsibilities, assign work, manage performance, conduct performance reviews, and support employee development and engagement.
  • Build the engineering capability of the team through development plans, coaching, mentoring, and hands-on opportunities that help reporting developers expand into data modeling, automation, integration, testing, source control, and scalable solution-design responsibilities.
  • Assess the team's current and future skill needs and develop a workforce strategy that evolves reporting, analytics, and data engineering capabilities in alignment with the organization's movement toward more engineering-oriented solutions.
  • Partner with commercial, clinical, operational, and technology stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate them into clear data, reporting, analytics, and engineering requirements.
  • Lead the development of business definitions, metrics, measure specifications, dashboards, reports, data pipelines, curated data sets, and analytical solutions that meet end-user needs and align with established standards.
  • Provide technical and functional direction for the design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support of enterprise reporting, analytics, and data engineering solutions.
  • Determine the appropriate reporting, analytics, or data engineering platform and solution approach based on business requirements, data availability, complexity, performance, scalability, maintainability, and user experience.
  • Provide oversight and technical guidance for Tableau dashboard development, data source design, application architecture, performance optimization, and platform best practices.
  • Provide oversight for Epic Clarity reporting and Databricks-based reporting and data engineering solutions, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, orchestration, and integration across enterprise systems.
  • Review the existing reporting and data environment and lead efforts to consolidate, standardize, modernize, or retire reports, dashboards, pipelines, and data assets where appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain reporting and data engineering governance practices, including development standards, documentation, quality controls, testing, naming conventions, source control, deployment practices, ownership, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain a centralized inventory of reports and dashboards, reporting requests, priorities, dependencies, and system conversion impacts.
  • Manage reporting and data engineering demand through a transparent intake and prioritization process aligned with organizational priorities and team capacity.
  • Identify and manage reporting and data engineering requirements, scope, risks, and dependencies associated with system implementations, database migrations, platform conversions, and new data integrations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for enterprise data, reporting capabilities, dashboards, metrics, data pipelines, and reporting processes.
  • Support the integration of internal and external data into enterprise reporting and analytics solutions and assess how new data sources complement existing information.
  • Analyze commercial, clinical, and operational data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring further investigation.
  • Promote reusable, scalable, and maintainable data and reporting solutions that reduce duplication, manual effort, fragile processes, and reliance on ad hoc reporting.
  • Communicate team goals, priorities, decisions, risks, and progress clearly to employees, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Build productive relationships and consensus across functions in a complex, cross-cultural, and matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and sound judgment when working through ambiguity, changing priorities, and new information.
