Ferrara/KME are premiere manufacturers of fire trucks and emergency response vehicles offering a full line of pumpers, aerials, industrial, wildland, and rescue apparatus. Working hands-on with both municipal and industrial fire departments, the Ferrara/KME team thrives on diagnosing departments' current apparatus limitations and response needs to custom design the perfect fire apparatus solution that will stand the test of time.

Primary Functions:

Ensure company compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations (OSHA/EPA/KDHE/DOT) as it pertains to employee safety, environmental compliance and proper storage and handling of hazardous materials and waste. Train employees in safety and environmental compliance. Develop a culture of environmental stewardship and personal safety within the staff. Oversee program implementation of the Maintenance Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that information on OSHA, EPA, and DOT, regulations are passed on to all employees.
  • Ensure that initial and annual training (OSHA, EPA, and DOT) is given to all affected employees.
  • Ensure that all written programs are updated when there are personnel, or physical changes that affect those programs.
  • Ensure that all employees are trained to these changes.
  • Update hazardous materials list and MSDS catalogs as needed to remain current.
  • Supervise Safety Committee, meetings, accident investigations and reporting.
  • Ensure that First Aid and CPR training is provided annually or when personnel changes occur.
  • Ensure that this facility stays in compliance with all record keeping, reporting, and certification requirements of the Class I Air Operating Permit.
  • Ensure that Tier II, Sec 312, Form R, Sec 313, Hazardous Waste Generation, Air Emissions, and any future Government mandated reports are filed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that DOT certification, special waste disposal permits, building permits, and any future permits are applied for, or reapplied for in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that daily, weekly, monthly, semiannual and annual safety checks and inspections are performed per OSHA requirements.
  • Be knowledgeable of all equipment used in the business of bus production.
  • Be the emergency coordinator for the facility.
  • Be on call 24/7 for emergency situations per EPA regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Schedule labor effectively to maximize productivity, plan parts, material and labor to accomplish set production goals, maintain safety and housekeeping, train employees, discipline employees as necessary.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions in English.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those in contact on a day to day basis.
  • Meet minimum standards of safety per assigned department.
  • Meet minimum standards of housekeeping per assigned department.
  • Be compliant with all the rules of conduct and attendance per the company handbook.
  • Perform required hazardous waste inspections and reporting per EPA requirements.
  • Sign manifests for hazardous waste shipments.


Qualifications/Training:

  • Hazardous Waste Contingency Planning training annually.
  • Ability to read, write comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blue prints, assembly drawing, schematics and other written or verbal instructions presented in English.
  • Ability to read English and Metric tape measures and use measuring devices.
  • Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.
  • Ability to recognize quality expected and be able to reproduce it.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Understand fundamental use of various pneumatic and power tools. Must be familiar with the operation of various tools- i.e. drill, screw gun, sander, jig saw, etc.
  • Must have working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Must receive initial and annual RCRA, and HAZWOPER training to be a certified trainer
  • Must be familiar with all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations as they pertain to Collins Bus Corporation's manufacturing processes.
  • Must have good mechanical skills.
  • Must have self motivational skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of production equipment.
  • Must be able to speak in front of a large group of people or class.
  • Must receive DOT training every 3 years to be a certified trainer.

  • Ability to stand or walk within the manufacturing environment for eight hours per day (minus specified breaks).
  • Ability to safely use specified hand, air, power tools, and machinery.
  • Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Hand-Eye coordination.
  • Required to handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
  • Ability to work in 105-degree heat for excess of eight (8) hours per day.
  • Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Ambient temperature range is 40-105 degrees with high humidity.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in a similar manufacturing environment.


Education:

  • BS in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or similar field.


Hazardous Waste Duties:

  • Manages all hazardous waste satellite and storage containers.
  • Performs weekly hazardous waste container inspections.
  • Arranges for disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with all local, State and Federal Rules and regulations.
  • Thoroughly familiar with Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan, including emergency response procedures and reporting.
  • Trains employees for hazardous waste handling.
  • Maintains records, including shipping manifests, training records, hazardous waste reports, and lab reports on materials.
  • Updates the Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan and emergency phone list when information changes.
  • Selects and provides suitable containers for handling the hazardous waste.
