The Team:
The Customer Experience Design team is part of the Energy division’s Customer Experience capability, helping the business understand customers, markets and emerging needs so leaders can make confident, evidence-based decisions. We are a collaborative, curious and customer-centered team that values methodological rigor, practical impact and strong partnership across Product, Technology, Commercial, Customer Experience, Marketing and Strategy.
Responsibilities and Impact:
- Own and continuously evolve the Energy division’s customer and market research portfolio, partnering with the Director of CX Design to align investment and resources to strategic priorities, growth opportunities and the decisions research will support.
- Partner with the Director, CX Design and senior leaders across Product, Technology, Commercial, Customer Experience, Marketing and Strategy to identify priority business questions and translate them into focused research programmes.
- Lead a small team of researchers working on end-to-end qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method research, ensuring rigorous study design, effective fieldwork, clear synthesis and actionable recommendations.
- Manage, coach and develop a high-performing research team, setting clear priorities and building capability across customer, market and mixed-method research.
- Continuously evolve research standards, governance and impact measures, improving quality, efficiency and innovation, including the responsible use of AI.
- Ensure insights reach decision-makers and are converted into product choices, investments, commercial actions and operational improvements, with clear evidence of business impact.
Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $105,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We’re Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications:
- Significant experience leading customer and/or market research portfolios in a complex, global organisation, with a strong understanding of how research informs strategic and commercial decisions.
- Demonstrated expertise in qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method research, including problem definition, study design, fieldwork, analysis, synthesis and insight activation.
- Proven people leadership experience, including setting priorities, managing performance, coaching researchers and building capability.
- Strong business acumen and experience partnering with senior stakeholders across functions such as Product, Technology, Commercial, Customer Experience, Marketing and Strategy.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to turn complex evidence into clear recommendations for different audiences.
- Strong influencing and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to challenge assumptions constructively and act as a trusted adviser.
- Highly organised and able to prioritise competing needs, allocate resources effectively and maintain focus on the highest-value work.
- A collaborative, curious and customer-centred leadership style, with a commitment to research quality, team development and measurable impact.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the energy, commodities, information services, data or technology sectors.
- Experience establishing research intake, prioritisation, governance, resource-allocation or impact-measurement frameworks.
- Familiarity with innovative research technologies and the responsible application of AI across research workflows.
- A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in market research, behavioural or social sciences, business, marketing or a related discipline.
- Strategic mindset, with the ability to connect divisional priorities and emerging business challenges to a forward-looking research agenda.
- Adaptability and sound judgement in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
- A growth mindset and passion for developing future research leaders and strengthening organisational research capability.
