Manager of Construction Training

Role Overview

The Manager of Construction Training is responsible for leading, developing, and executing the construction training and certification programs for Technical Field Advisors (TFAs) involved in the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation installation, erection, and cold commissioning of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and associated auxiliary equipment, electrical control systems, and power supplies.

This role ensures that Construction TFAs are technically competent, safety-focused, and fully qualified to execute field installation and pre-commissioning activities in accordance with company standards, project requirements, and applicable codes. The Manager of Construction Training works closely with Construction Leadership, Engineering, EHS, and Commissioning teams to align training content with project execution needs and downstream commissioning requirements. The Manager of Construction Training reports to the Project Manager of PMO Training & Certification.

Key Responsibilities
• Serves as the primary leader of the Construction Training and Certification Program for Technical Field Advisors.
• Acts as the Construction organization's technical representative within the PMO Training & Certification team, partnering with leadership to align training strategy, develop construction-specific curricula, and integrate requirements into the enterprise training roadmap.
• Develops, maintains, and continuously improves training curricula covering:
o Mechanical installation and erection of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment.
o Electrical installation of control systems, protection systems, instrumentation, and power supplies.
o Instrumentation installation, loop checks, and construction phase verification activities.
o Cold commissioning and pre-commissioning activities in support of turnover to Commissioning.
• Ensures all construction training materials, procedures, and certification requirements are current, accurate, and aligned with approved construction standards, installation manuals, drawings, and project specifications.
• Administers and maintains the Construction TFA Competency Assessment Matrix for new and existing personnel, ensuring competency evaluations and updates are completed at defined intervals.
• Tracks individual training, qualifications, and certification records for Construction Team members and ensures all required refresher training and re-certifications remain current.
• Develops and maintains software-based training and support tools (primarily using Microsoft Office and SharePoint) to support Construction TFAs in field execution and documentation.
• Leads regular Construction Training and Certification review meetings with Construction Management, Engineering, EHS, and other key stakeholders.
• Develops, implements, and supports Construction related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and best practice guides.
• Develop training materials which consider cross functional alignment with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, EHS, and Commissioning to ensure seamless transition from construction to commissioning.
• Prepares and delivers technical training sessions and presentations for internal and external audiences, including classroom, virtual, and field-based training.
• Supports companywide training initiatives and continuous improvement efforts related to construction execution and workforce development.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering or Technical diploma from college or university.
• Minimum of 10 years' related experience in the field of Construction or Engineering.
• Experience with EPC power projects required.
• Experience with developing project drawings, procedures, and documents.
• Strong organizational and supervisory skills needed.
• Minimum of 3 years in people management experience preferred.
• Experience in people management and development as a first line Supervisor/Manager.
• Able to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Multilingual in Japanese and/or Spanish would be an asset.
• Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and electronic mail.
• Comfortable working with developers to establish reporting, tracking and job history information systems associated with sitework.
• Power BI skills would be an asset.
• Experience working with Copilot 365 is preferred.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to approximately 25% of the work year.
• Valid driver's license and passport required.
