Maintenance Planning Superintendenthe Maintenance Planning Superintendent leads the maintenance planning and scheduling function for a heavy manufacturing operation to improve equipment reliability, maximize planned work, reduce unplanned downtime, and support safe, cost-effective execution of maintenance activities. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining planning standards, coordinating shutdown and turnaround work, optimizing labor and materials readiness, and ensuring effective use of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). The position works closely with operations, maintenance execution, engineering, supply chain, and contractors to align maintenance priorities with production needs and long-term asset performance.

What you'll do:- Lead the site maintenance planning and scheduling team to ensure work is prioritized, planned, and executed with a high level of quality and efficiency.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve planning and scheduling processes for preventive, predictive, corrective, and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Establish planning standards for job scoping, labor estimates, material requirements, tools, permits, sequencing, and work package quality.
- Drive weekly and daily scheduling routines with operations and maintenance teams to balance production requirements, asset risk, and available resources.
- Manage maintenance backlog, work order quality, and schedule compliance to improve wrench time and increase the percentage of planned work.
- Oversee major shutdowns, turnarounds, and outages including scope development, critical path coordination, contractor planning, and post-outage review.
- Ensure spare parts, bill of materials, kitting, and procurement coordination support timely execution of planned work.
- Monitor and improve CMMS data quality, asset hierarchy, maintenance strategies, and reporting accuracy.
- Partner with reliability, engineering, and operations teams to identify recurring failures, support root cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Support a strong safety culture by ensuring maintenance planning incorporates isolation requirements, permits, risk controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage planning resources, coach team members, and build capability in planning, scheduling, and maintenance best practices.
- Contribute to annual budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for maintenance activities, contracted services, and major outages.
- Track and communicate maintenance performance metrics, trends, risks, and improvement opportunities to plant leadership.
About you:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial technology, maintenance management, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent industrial experience will be considered.
- Typically 7-10 years of progressive maintenance experience in heavy manufacturing, mining, metals, cement, pulp and paper, chemicals, or similarly asset-intensive operations.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in maintenance planning, scheduling, shutdown coordination, or reliability management.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance practices in a production environment.
- Proficiency with CMMS platforms such as ORACLE, SAP PM, IBM Maximo, or similar systems.
- Experience with preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, failure analysis, and maintenance performance measurement.
- Working knowledge of budgeting, contractor management, and spare parts/inventory coordination.
- Knowledge of applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in industrial operations.
- Professional certifications such as CMRP, PMP, or equivalent are advantageous.

Working Conditions:This position is based in an industrial plant environment and requires regular interaction with production areas, maintenance shops, warehouses, and contractor work zones. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required when entering operational areas.
