Position Overview
The Manager, Maintenance Steelmaking leads the Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance teams supporting Steelmaking operations. This position oversees maintenance personnel and works to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Key responsibilities include supervising maintenance teams, reducing equipment downtime, coordinating preventative and predictive maintenance, monitoring maintenance performance, and working with other departments and union personnel to support safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability.
Core Responsibilities:Maintenance Leadership & Workforce Management
- Responsible for managing the Steelmaking Maintenance Departments which includes a 115 MVA 225 ton EAF, ladle met furnace, six strand continuous billet caster, and associated equipment.
- Responsible for management of salary and hourly employees
- Supervise and direct the electrical and mechanical supervisors, reduce maintenance downtime, utilize maintenance practices including predictive and preventative maintenance, thermography, oil analysis, and vibration analysis.
- Maintain records, schedules and financial reports.
Equipment & Shift Operations
- Perform equipment inspections.
- Monitor equipment conditions and identify maintenance needs requiring follow-up.
- Work rotating shifts to provide maintenance leadership and support during assigned shifts.
- Document shift activities and prepare reports as required.
Communication & Coordination
- Interface effectively with other members of supervision, personnel from other departments, and ISWA personnel.
- Communicate maintenance priorities, equipment conditions, repair status, and shift activities to appropriate personnel.
- Must be organized and capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities.
- Coordinate resources and maintenance activities with production and other departments as needed.
Safety, Quality & Operational Performance
- Responsibilities include safety, quality, and productivity for the maintenance personnel daily.
- Maintain accountability for productivity, quality, safety, and housekeeping within assigned areas.
- Reinforce safe work practices and company safety requirements during maintenance activities.
- Address maintenance issues in a timely manner while maintaining appropriate safety and quality standards.
Qualifications
Candidates interested in this role should have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor degree (preferred Mechanical / Electrical Engineering)
- 2 years or more related experience and/or training
- 5+ years related experience in lieu of degree
- Experience in a unionized environment strongly preferred
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills under pressure
