Maintenance Manager

Department: Maintenance/Engineering
Location: Carol Stream, IL
Type: Full-time

Summary:

The Maintenance Manager will:
  • Be primarily responsible for leading, developing, and assessing the maintenance team for long-term growth.
  • When necessary, coordinate activities such as contractor visits, project installations and production requests with the Engineering Team and the Facility Director.
  • Routinely report on equipment contracts, maintenance KPI's, cost-saving initiatives and safety topics.
  • Direct the PM and Production Request assignments.
  • Report directly to the Director of Maintenance & Engineering.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

In addition to leading the growth of the Carol Stream Maintenance Team, the primary responsibilities of the Maintenance Manager will include:
  • Manage the equipment and utility contracts for the Carol Stream campus
  • Coordinate cost-saving and production safety & efficiency opportunities with the Engineering, Facilities, and Continuous Improvement teams
  • Oversee the growth and training of the Maintenance team
  • Environmental Health & Safety (EHS):
    • Ensure regulatory compliance in EHS
    • Foster a continuous improvement culture focused on achieving the goal of zero incidents in our facilities
    • Lead by example by holding yourself accountable for your personal safety and the safety of those around you
    • Train our employees on safe practices, encourage employee involvement, and address safety issues in the workplace
    • Own key safety and/or environmental programs with associated training
  • Quality:
    • Ensure making safe, quality food is a critical pillar to manufacturing.
    • Comply with rules set out by the government and certifying organizations including, but not limited to, Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Organic, Kosher, Halal, and British Retail Consortium (BRC).
    • Drive best practices in sanitary / hygienic principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and fully support third party quality audits
  • Productivity
    • Oversee and manage the maintenance team responsible for the repair, maintenance of production equipment, building and utilities
    • Prioritize, plan, schedule and direct repair, maintenance, and installation activities in a manner that ensures a reliable operation
    • Utilize the preventive maintenance (PM) program leveraging the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and maintain proper record keeping
    • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPI's) and utilize Lean / Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) / 6-Sigma tools to drive continuous improvement and accountability
    • Support the execution of capital projects
  • Leadership
    • Provide consistent leadership in managing people and providing all employees a positive, engaging work environment.
    • Complete quarterly performance reviews and all other documentation in a timely and professional manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily workflow for the Maintenance Team
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
  • Report on a weekly or regular basis to management

Required Education and/or Experience:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering (preferred) or equivalent work experience or:
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience with a demonstrated track record of increased responsibilities, with a working knowledge and/or specialized technical training in industrial systems and processes, including but not limited to electrical power, controls, boilers, compressors, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, welding
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate with involved departments

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse environment
  • Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Other physical requirements include moderate standing and occasional squatting, bending, and twisting
  • Ability to stand for an extended periods of time
  • Must be able to wear any required PPE such as scrubs, hair net, lab coat, and facemask
  • Ability to work in a packaging area with a moderate powder substance in the air with or without a respirator
  • Ability to work above shoulders
  • Other physical requirements include frequent squatting, bending, twisting, and bi-lateral wrist movement
  • Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas
  • Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
