MACHINE SHOP SUPERVISOR - 2ND SHIFT

Description

Position Summary

Electroswitch is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to lead and coordinate second-shift machining operations at our Rockland facility. This position is responsible for supervising employees, assigning and prioritizing work, supporting machine setups, troubleshooting production issues, and ensuring the team meets safety, quality, and productivity expectations.

The ideal candidate will have previous machine shop leadership experience, strong knowledge of manual machining, and a working understanding of CNC operations. Advanced CNC programming experience is not required, but the supervisor must be able to make basic CNC adjustments and assist employees with setup and machining issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise, direct, train, coach, and motivate second-shift machine shop employees.
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign daily work based on production requirements, work-center capacity, and required completion dates.
  • Assign work orders across all machine shop work centers and monitor progress throughout the shift.
  • Coordinate closely with the first-shift supervisor to ensure an effective handoff of production priorities, equipment concerns, quality issues, and incomplete work.
  • Monitor employee productivity, quality, attendance, and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Provide hands-on technical support with machine setups, basic CNC adjustments, manual machining, and production troubleshooting.
  • Assist employees in identifying and resolving setup, tooling, and machining issues.
  • Review shop-order routings and recommend revisions to setup times, run times, operational sequences, and assigned work centers when needed.
  • Develop or revise operational sequence routings for new and existing parts.
  • Review new parts to identify required tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Review shop orders to confirm that the appropriate work center is being used based on production quantities and machine capabilities.
  • Maintain tooling inventory and order necessary supplies for the tool crib.
  • Design or coordinate the purchase of special cutting tools, cams, fixtures, and induction tooling.
  • Partner with Engineering to develop prototypes and introduce new parts into production.
  • Work closely with Quality on calibration tooling requirements, statistical process control, and quality-related concerns.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, employee development, and corrective-action processes.
  • Review employee requests for vacation, sick time, and overtime in accordance with company procedures.
  • Evaluate staffing requirements and recommend temporary support when appropriate.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Participate in cost-reduction and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate equipment and process improvements that could increase productivity, quality, or capacity.
  • Review outsourced components and identify opportunities to bring work in-house when practical and cost-effective.
  • Open, secure, and close the facility as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Three to five years of related machine shop experience.
  • Previous supervisory, team-lead, or other machine shop leadership experience.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of manual machining methods and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of CNC machine operations, setups, and basic adjustments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machine setups, tooling, and machining issues.
  • Advanced CNC programming experience is not required.
  • Experience scheduling work and managing competing production priorities.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, shop routings, and technical specifications.
  • ERP experience and strong general computer skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively across shifts.
  • Associate degree or technical training in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Availability to work second shift and provide leadership throughout the shift.

Pay Range:

$80,000 - $95,000 annually

Work Hours:

2:30 PM - 11:00 PM; Monday - Thursday. 11:30 AM - 5:30 PM; Friday.
