What will you do?

We are expanding our Intelligence Origination team into the US. This team is responsible for sourcing proprietary, off-record insights on live private equity related transactions. You'll join the team as an M&A reporter covering US M&A activity, responsible for producing news-style reporting and intelligence on live transactions for a global professional audience.

Your mission is to cultivate a trusted network of off-record sources - including investment bankers, private equity sponsors, advisors, consultants, lenders, and lawyers - and extract proprietary intelligence on live deals. You'll be speaking with market participants in a background-only capacity, surfacing intelligence that rarely appears in the public domain.

You will report on market insights and translate them into news updates using AI-assisted editorial workflows, based on your source reporting and verification activities. This includes financials, process stage, valuation ranges, suitors and bidders, lender involvement, deal motivation, and more - forming the basis of news-style intelligence published to Gain's global subscriber base.

Key responsibilities:In your role, you will:
  • Build, cultivate and maintain an extensive in-person network of professional sources across the financial ecosystem, including investment bankers, private equity professionals, lenders, legal advisors, consultants, and senior executives
  • Conduct daily off-record, high-trust conversations to surface non-public insights on deal activity
  • Monitor and identify emerging and active M&A transactions, providing comprehensive local market coverage through continuous source engagement and independent reporting
  • Produce accurate, timely and insight-driven market intelligence based on original reporting and direct source relationships, while maintaining strict confidentiality and adhering to established journalistic standards, including fact-checking, source verification, double-sourcing and the solicitation of comment from relevant parties

Who are you?You have:
  • 2+ years of experience in financial journalism, with a focus on M&A, private credit or private equity reporting
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of M&A, private equity or private credit markets
  • Skilled at cultivating senior-level sources and handling off-record, background-only conversations
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, both in-person and remotely
  • High attention to detail and ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy
  • Comfortable operating independently as part of a fast-moving, entrepreneurial team

What do we offer?
  • Base salary: $70,000 - $120,000 (depending on experience and qualifications) and a performance-based bonus
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with pension contribution
  • Hybrid work model - 3 days per week in our Manhattan office
  • 20 days of paid time off and public holidays
  • Annual learning & development budget
  • International offsites and local team events
  • A high-performance, inclusive culture with global collaboration and real ownership
