LITIGATION ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY (2-6 YEARS) - SACRAMENTO OR SAN FRANCISCOTHE OPPORTUNITY Weintraub Tobin is seeking a full-time Litigation Associate in our Sacramento or San Francisco office with two to six years of substantive general litigation including experience with dispositive motions, discovery, and exceptional research, writing, and analytical skills. This position will handle cases in all phases of litigation, including legal research, drafting pleadings and discovery, attending hearings and depositions, arguing motions, and assisting with trial preparation. This position is open to a hybrid schedule after 90 days with 3 days in office and no more than 2 days remote.
The associate will have the opportunity to work on sophisticated, complex litigation matters and will collaborate closely with experienced litigators and trial lawyers. This role offers meaningful responsibility and hands-on experience across all phases of litigation, with the opportunity to develop strategic, practical advocacy skills. The successful candidate will have a distinguished academic background and exceptional research, writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES - Handle litigation matters through all phases, including pre-litigation strategy, pleadings, discovery, law and motion practice, mediation, trial preparation, and post-trial proceedings
- Draft high-quality pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses, including dispositive motions such as demurrers and motions for summary judgment
- Participate in conducting and defending depositions, preparing witnesses for depositions and hearings, and respond to written discovery requests
- Conduct legal research and provide strategic analysis on complex business-related disputes
- Appear at hearings, case management conferences, mediations, and arbitrations
- Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit preparation, witness outlines, and coordination with experts
- Collaborate closely with partners, senior associates, and clients to develop litigation strategy and manage cases efficiently
- Prepare matters for mediation and trial, including developing case themes, coordinating key tasks, and collaborating with experts as needed
- Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and third-party vendors to advance cases efficiently
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar
- 2-6 years of complex general litigation experience
- Demonstrated experience drafting and arguing dispositive and non-dispositive motions
- Experience taking and defending depositions and managing cases through discovery, motion practice, mediation, and trial preparation
- Trial experience preferred.
- Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, client-focused approach
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple matters and deadlines while exercising sound judgment with minimal supervision
Salary range: $160,000 - $210,000 (based upon years of experience)
