Work Arrangement:Hybrid (currently 2–3 days per week in-office)

Travel Requirements: Some travel (up to 10% per year depending on business demands)

Job Summary

Based at our North American Headquarters in Roswell, GA, the Litigation and Corporate Counsel is a cross-functional legal role providing strategic legal advice and services to United States and Canadian business units. This hybrid role manages litigation matters, oversees key regulatory compliance areas, and directly supports several procurement functions. The ideal candidate serves as a trusted business partner, helping minimize risk while promoting sustainable growth across our operations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Litigation and Corporate Counsel will hold primary legal responsibility for the following core areas:

1. Litigation & Dispute Management
  • Manage all litigation matters for US and Canada operations (except real estate).

  • Attend corporate depositions, key hearings, mediations or settlement conferences, trials, and major case events as needed.

  • Assist in identifying, selecting, and proactively managing outside counsel and work cooperatively with firms to provide strategic direction for cases.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to investigate facts and prepare essential witnesses for deposition or trial testimony.

  • Keep Legal leadership and business clients apprised of matter status and strategy.

  • Establish budgets for litigation matters, oversee litigation spending, and report on budgetary deviations.

  • Advise clients about pre-litigation disputes and work with parties to achieve efficient resolutions before litigation.

  • Work with insurers and insurance counsel to maximize insurance and indemnity recovery.

2. Product Stewardship and Health & Safety
  • Provide primary legal advice and compliance guidance regarding Product Stewardship, and Health & Safety matters across all U.S. and Canada business units.

  • Assist Product Stewardship leadership with policy development, issue management, and regulatory compliance.

  • Partner closely with Operations and Health & Safety to advise on the handling of safety incidents, regulatory inspections, and citation contests.

3. Procurement Support
  • Lead legal strategy and support for specialized Procurement categories, including Logistics & Transport, Packaging, and Energy.

  • Collaborate with other Legal Department members to develop templates and playbooks for efficiently implementing company Procurement strategy across categories.

4. Employment (secondary)
  • Support primary in-house Employment lawyer by advising HR and leadership on employment and workplace policy matters as needed.

  • Handle employment litigation matters as assigned. 

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.): Degree from an accredited law school.

  • Bar Admission: Active member in good standing of at least one state bar; licensed or eligible to become licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia.

  • Years of Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience with complex litigation (in-house or at a reputable law firm).

  • Litigation Expertise: Substantial background in complex litigation, including working with national and regional law firms across the value spectrum; products liability experience preferred. 

  • Interest in Business Law: Requires a deep interest in understanding and partnering with the business on commercial contracts; some hands-on experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts preferred.

  • Tech Savvy: Proficient user of Google Workspace (Gmail, Meet, Gemini), Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and practice/docket management systems.  Interest in the application of technology to the workplace, including its use to improve in-house legal practice.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Standard office environment activities (sitting up to 80% of the time, standing/walking up to 20%).

  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.

  • Hybrid work schedule currently requires 2–3 days per week in our Roswell, GA office.

Compensation Range: $150,000 to $180,000, depending on education and experience

This position is also eligible to receive an annual bonus consistent with Imerys’ Annual Incentive Plan. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. In addition, Imerys provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, generous 401K match savings plan, and holidays.
