Full Job Description
Job Summary

The Lighting/Shading Systems Engineer is responsible for the management and execution of engineering design reviews for integrated lighting and automated shading systems across the client portfolio. This role is central to the "Integrated Architecture" strategy, ensuring that lighting (Acuity nLight) and automated shading (Mecho) systems are not standalone silos but are seamlessly integrated via BACnet/IP and ECLYPSE controllers to the building's central automation backbone. The Engineer works with a team of engineers and contractors to ensure implementation of best practices and adherence to client standards (FIS 2.8R) in support of projects ranging from tenant improvements to large-scale infrastructure and new construction. This role interacts with the facilities manager organization, project teams, operations, and client representatives to mitigate implementation risks and ensure optimal daylighting and occupancy performance.

Responsibilities:

Design and Engineering:
  • Conduct design reviews for electrical and architectural drawings (DD/CD/IFC) to ensure lighting and shading controls comply with relevant standards and stakeholder expectations.
  • Perform technical reviews of Integrated Sequences of Operation (SOO), specifically focusing on nLight ECLYPSE logic, occupancy/daylight sensor mapping, and nLight-to-Shade communication protocols.
  • Conduct field inspections throughout project implementation to verify sensor placement and controller accessibility, proactively identifying implementation risks such as "panel-in-ceiling" accessibility issues.
  • Coordinate with project teams and represent the client on the project team to ensure stakeholder requirements are appropriately addressed and all issues are effectively resolved via the Issues & Resolutions (I&R) Log.
  • Collaborate with vendors (Acuity Brands, Mecho) to ensure project requirements are met and systems are "Google Network Ready."

Project Management:
  • Manage multiple lighting/shading projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and adherence to the 2026 TDQC project timeline.
  • Provide regular progress updates and reports regarding system readiness and integration milestones.
  • Proactively identify process deficiencies in the lighting-shading integration workflow, and develop and implement improvements.
  • Ensure internal records and project databases are verified via ongoing quality assurance (Smartsheets Intake).
  • Prepare and present reporting to stakeholders to drive effective architectural and energy-saving solutions.

Implementation and Commissioning:
  • Oversee the installation and configuration of nLight gateways, ECLYPSE controllers, and shading motor interfaces.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive commissioning plans for glare control, automated dimming, and override logic.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system integration issues during commissioning and initial operation.
  • Perform system integration audits to transition new control systems onto in-operations servers and validate BACnet point mapping consistency.
  • Evaluate operating trends and occupancy data subsequent to handover to validate that system performance is consistent with the design intent and telemetry is hitting Carson/G5 platforms.

Qualifications required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related facilities engineering field. (Associates degree with additional relevant experience may be considered.)
  • 4-7 years of experience in facilities lighting and shading control systems.
  • Deep expertise in Acuity nLight platforms, including ECLYPSE controllers and BACnet/IP integration.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory, daylight harvesting sequences, and building automation protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in integrated lighting/shading scenarios.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering and/or Industry certification (i.e., P.E., LC, PMP).
  • Previous experience in project management, including scope development and technical review of commercial lighting projects.
  • Previous experience with WebCTRL integration and BACnet point naming conventions.
