This position is offering up to a $20,000 sign on bonus based on experience.

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is hiring for a detail-oriented Licensed Veterinary Technician to come work alongside our new board-certified Ophthalmologist.

Pay: $30.00 - $51.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

Ophthalmology Technician Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
  • Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
  • Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
  • Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
  • Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
  • For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
  • Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
  • Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet's ocular disease and care

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for LVTs and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for LVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150/year. Full-time LVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
