JOB SUMMARY Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Human Resources and Talent Management administers and supports employee-qualified leave of absence programs such as personal leave, sick leave, accident leave, short and long-term disability and FMLA; oversees and administer workers compensation claims and ADA request and accommodations. Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of all Federal, State and Local laws as it relates to leave administration and advises employees on BOE policy, guidelines and documentation requirements. Monitors and tracks absence status, documentation and return to work dates. Coordinates with supervisors to develop modified work schedules or return to work accommodations connected to a leave of absence. Performs additional duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Serves as contact and the subject matter expert for all aspects of leave within the district, including but not limited to ADA, FMLA, Military, Jury Duty, Personal, Medical, and Educational leaves of absences.
- Coordinates and tracks workers' compensation claims for BOE; organizes and maintains files; attends regularly reoccurring meetings with PMA and Risk Management.
- Communicates with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules. Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice required to qualify for and to take leave.
- Handles the leave administration process from the employee's initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification as needed, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use.
- Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work; relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.
- Advises managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers' compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
- Oversees the return-to-work process for employees returning from extended FMLA, workers' compensation, or other leave(s).
- Facilitates other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA.
- Administers other time-off programs as assigned in accordance with internal policy and applicable laws.
- Drafts and/or recommends revisions to BOE leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Maintains complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices.
- Coordinates employee leaves of absence between the City and BOE HR.
- Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
- Maintains knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws.
- Provides administrative support to other HR staff as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degrees in Business Administration, Human Resources or a closely related field and four (4) years of progressive responsible experience in Human Resources of which two (2) must be in the area of leave management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
SCOPE OF EXAMINATION: Evaluation of candidates for the position of Leave Absence Administrator will be based on a comprehensive review of each applicant's education, training, and experience, as demonstrated through the application materials and any required supplementary responses.
The examination will assess the extent to which candidates possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.
