Leidos is seeking a
Lead Transmission Line Engineer - Innovation & Technology to join our EPC Solutions Team within Power Delivery Solutions. This hybrid role pairs about 75% hands-on lead engineering on major EPC transmission projects with about 25% technology product development, innovation, and client engagement. We're pursuing and executing some of the industry's largest transmission programs, including 500 kV projects spanning hundreds of miles. You'll help build the processes and technology that let us win and deliver even bigger ones. Your project experience will directly shape our products, our clients' results, and the growth of our business.
What You'll Be Doing:
Lead Engineering & Process Development (~75%)- Serve as Lead Transmission Line Engineer on EPC projects, owning the transmission scope from design development through construction support
- Coordinate designers and collaborate with project management, other disciplines, procurement, construction partners, and project controls to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets
- Develop and review calculations, drawings, specifications, and material requirements, and lead design and interdisciplinary reviews
- Support procurement and field teams with technical questions, design changes, and issue resolution, and interface with clients on technical matters
- Help build our EPC Transmission Line execution model: repeatable workflows, templates, design criteria, and QA/QC practices that reduce manual effort without sacrificing engineering rigor
Technology Product Development & Business Growth (~25%)- Serve as the transmission engineering liaison to the Leidos technology product team, creating a continuous feedback loop between product development and real-world project execution
- Turn project workflows, pain points, and client needs into use cases, requirements, and product enhancements, and help prioritize what gets built
- Pilot and validate our transmission toolset on live projects, then document results and share them with leadership to guide development
- Join client demonstrations, technical discussions, and pursuits, using your hands-on experience to connect technology to real client challenges across utilities, EPC contractors, and developers
- Identify where technology-enabled engineering sets Leidos apart, and help turn successful demonstrations into new transmission work
Career Growth & Impact: This role is designed to grow as our EPC Transmission organization grows.
- Technical growth: large, complex high-voltage programs that build deep expertise in advanced transmission design and large-scale EPC execution
- Two paths forward: EPC T-Line Engineering & Technology Manager (leading the team, its processes, and its technology), or Innovation & Business Development Lead (commercializing technology-enabled solutions and shaping strategic pursuits)
- Visibility: a direct communication path to senior Leidos Energy leadership, with no people-management duties required
- Impact beyond a single project: you'll build processes, turn them into technology, prove them on active projects, and show clients the value, so each project makes the next one stronger and helps win more work
- Impact on the grid: your work will improve how transmission infrastructure is designed and delivered, and how power moves across the country
What You'll Bring to the Table (Required Qualifications):- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
- A minimum of 8 years of transmission line design experience, including lead or project engineer responsibilities
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE, and working knowledge of NESC and related standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including client-facing experience
You Might Also Have:- PE license (or actively pursuing)
- Experience with EPC or design-build delivery
- Experience with process improvement, automation, or engineering software tools
- Experience with TOWER, MFAD/LPILE, or Bentley ProjectWise
