Lead Systems Administration Engineer

Warrenville, IL (Hybrid)

Position Overview:
This is a technical individual contributor role within the Information Technology department, focused on at least half-time support of corporate computer user requests and troubleshooting, with the remaining time spent assisting on network server-based support activities. The position has the higher-level education and/or industry experience that establishes the employee as an expert practitioner in the assigned role. High quality, independent work is expected, as well as mentoring of peers.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive support for Windows OS and Mac (OSX) IT issues to local and remote FTI employees including hardware diagnostics, connectivity issues, and software support. Able to pursue even the most complex situations until resolved.
  • Recommend, purchase, and configure new hardware for new employees, and train employees on new hardware as needed.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of IT department documentation on IT assets and licensing.
  • Provide support and administration for the following: ESX/VMware virtual network systems, and MS SQL server, Microsoft Server 2019 network, MS Hybrid Exchange, Watchguard firewalls, SharePoint, and Cisco infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the proactive problem-solving mission of the IT team at an advanced level, identifying ways to improve FTI productivity through the deployment of new technologies.
  • Maintains upmost awareness of technical developments in the industry related to FTI technologies and champions the adoption of new technology or methods as appropriate.
  • Position to be located in Warrenville, IL. Occasional travel to other Fuel Tech offices is expected (

Qualifications/Required Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge: Demonstrated computer/technology knowledge of an expert practitioner over a very broad range of systems and devices, with the ability to quickly and easily assimilate new hardware and software to a very high proficiency.

Abilities: Works and thinks independently, reasons logically; Synthesizes complex and/or diverse component information into a working system view; Collects and researches information needed to make sound technical decisions; Generates creative solutions, translates concepts and information into clear and professional training materials. Education and Experience:

Four-year or advanced degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), or related field; 10 years of experience in Windows operating systems and Active Directory systems administration; 10 years of experience with IT hardware selection, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting; 3+ years of experience with Mac operating systems and troubleshooting.

Physical Requirement:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Travel Requirements:

Less than 10%.
