SUMMARY:

The Lead SCADA/MES Developer will provide technical leadership for the development, enhancement, integration, and support of SCADA (Ignition) and MES (Sepasoft) applications supporting JLG manufacturing operations.

This individual will serve as a technical subject matter expert for SCADA/MES applications and related manufacturing technologies, while remaining hands-on with application development and production support. The role will lead technical solutions, mentor other developers, establish development and support standards, and work closely with manufacturing, engineering, controls, quality, and Digital Technology teams to deliver reliable and scalable digital manufacturing solutions.

This position is based in Frederick, MD and requires the ability to provide hands-on support at manufacturing facilities as needed.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Lead the design, development, configuration, enhancement, and support of SCADA/MES applications using Ignition and Sepasoft.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for Ignition Perspective, Sepasoft MES, and related manufacturing application technologies.
  • Develop and maintain Ignition Perspective screens, views, components, and application functionality supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and modify manufacturing applications using Python/Jython.
  • Apply advanced Microsoft SQL Server scripting and database fundamentals to support application development, data management, and system integration.
  • Develop and support Sepasoft MES applications, including Batch, Document Management, OEE, and Settings & Changeover.
  • Provide technical leadership for the design, development, and support of enterprise and site-level MES solutions.
  • Support an enterprise-to-site Sepasoft architecture and the deployment and configuration of site-level MES functionality.
  • Develop and support integrations between SCADA/MES applications and PLCs, ERP systems, quality systems, databases, APIs, historians, and other manufacturing technologies.
  • Support MQTT-based data collection and Unified Namespace (UNS) architectures, including solutions utilizing HighByte.
  • Support manufacturing data collection and analysis utilizing GE Historian and TimeBase Historian.
  • Support integrations with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and other plant-floor technologies.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex SCADA/MES production issues and lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, scalability, maintainability, and overall manufacturing system architecture.
  • Lead technical projects, special projects, and cross-functional workstreams within the Digital Manufacturing environment.
  • Establish and promote development standards, coding practices, architecture patterns, documentation standards, and support processes for SCADA/MES applications.
  • Review technical solutions and provide guidance to developers and other technical resources on application design, troubleshooting, and development practices.
  • Coach and mentor team members on SCADA/MES development, software engineering practices, troubleshooting, and solution design.
  • Work with manufacturing, engineering, controls, quality, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Advise stakeholders and development teams on technical approaches, system design, integrations, and best practices.
  • Support the development of functional specifications, technical designs, test cases, technical documentation, deployment plans, and recovery procedures.
  • Participate in application testing, implementation, upgrades, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions that improve manufacturing operations, system capabilities, and data availability.
  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel in the design, development, implementation, and support of manufacturing technology solutions.
  • Assist with the deployment and support of technology outside of the core SCADA/MES environment when required to support manufacturing operations.
  • Follow established standards for application security, data integrity, source control, change management, backup/recovery, and system support.
  • Provide hands-on production support for SCADA/MES systems to help maintain system availability and minimize production downtime.
  • Provide on-site support at manufacturing facilities for implementations, troubleshooting, upgrades, and other production support activities as required.
  • Provide off-shift support when necessary to address production-impacting SCADA/MES issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience developing or supporting SCADA, MES, manufacturing applications, industrial software, or related technology.
  • Demonstrated development and production support experience with Ignition
  • Experience developing in Ignition using Python/Jython and working with SQL Server databases and scripting.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and resolving complex production system issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical solutions and provide technical direction to developers or other technical resources.
  • Experience working with manufacturing, engineering, controls, IT, and other business stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to mentor and coach developers and technical resources.
  • Ability to travel to manufacturing facilities and provide occasional off-shift support based on production needs.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Sepasoft Batch, Document Management, OEE, and Settings & Changeover modules.
  • Experience with HighByte and Unified Namespace (UNS) architectures.
  • Experience with MQTT and Sparkplug technologies.
  • Experience with GE Historian and/or TimeBase Historian.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-to-site Sepasoft architectures.
  • Manufacturing experience, particularly within assembly operations. Experience with fabrication or paint is also beneficial.
  • Experience with PLCs and industrial automation systems.
  • Experience integrating SCADA/MES systems with AMRs or other autonomous manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience with VDA 5050 standards and integrations.
  • Experience utilizing REST APIs, JSON, web services, messaging protocols, or other system integration technologies.
  • Experience with source control and code repositories such as GitHub.
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, or automated deployment practices.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar tools for work management, deployment, and documentation.
  • Experience with application architecture, system integration, high availability, backup/recovery, or disaster recovery.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Pay Range:

$103,300.00 - $177,700.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
