Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY
Implements and evaluates the chemical, biological, radiological, general and fire safety programs independently. Ensures that the facilities maintain compliance with the standards promulgated by regulatory and accrediting agencies. Act as lead resource for team in carrying out department objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervise staff, evaluating performance and delivering feedback.
  • Mentoring and developing employees’ performance.
  • Process employee actions in employee management system.
  • Communicate team performance to department leadership.
  • Understand applicable external regulations and internal policies/SOP's and evaluate compliance status. This includes developing inspection checklists, performing inspections, preparing and presenting results, and performing program evaluations.
  • Develop final department documents including SOP's and guides.
  • Deliver training to all audiences. Develop training presentations and programs.
  • Provides direction/assistance and supervises Associate Safety Officers and/or Safety Officers.
  • Continually enhance technical skills in either radiation safety, chemical safety, biological safety, hospital safety or a combination of multiple areas. Participate in scholastic study of technical area to maintain certification or plot a path to certification.
  • Participates on, leads, and presents at various associated committees, subcommittees and task forces by appointment; provides recommendations and assists with corrective actions. May include facilitating meetings, setting agenda and managing minutes for committee meeting.
  • Develop departmental reports for internal and/or external reporting including producing final versions.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Computer/Electronic Knowledge (Advanced): Knowledge of the use of applications and tasks on computers and other electronic devices as part of regular work responsibilities.  It includes knowledge of software such as word processors, spreadsheets, text editors, and graphics.
  • Safety (Advanced): The knowledge of and attentiveness to safety as well as compliance with the rules regarding safety.
  • Regulatory Compliance (Advanced): Demonstrates knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations and apply them in difficult, stressful and complex situations. Able to interpret and explain rules and regulations that are ambiguous or unclear. Directs others in interpreting rules and regulations on the job and trains others in them.
  • Documentation & Writing Skills (Advanced): Demonstrates knowledge, training, and experience in documentation and writing to provide high quality products that will engage an audience and speak for the organization. Delivers documentation services in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others.
  • Project Management (Advanced): Planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. 
  • Data Analysis (Advanced): The ability to analyze data in an accurate manner.
