Overview

We are seeking a full-time Lead Project Manager Engineering - Automotive at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for being a leader in the largest and most complex engineering projects including developing and execution of project plans and reporting project status. This role is recognized as an expert and internal consultant within the organization and leads project management process improvements and mentors less-experienced Project Managers. In addition, this position may manage large projects across business units with minimal guidance.

Essential Functions
  • Key contributor and leader of the largest and most complex engineering projects consisting of multiple modules or sub-projects; may be recognized as a company expert on project management principles
  • Fully understands product domain knowledge to create new processes, tools and requirements
  • Identifies and leads cross organizational process improvement activities
  • Drives projects to closure, leveraging project metrics and risk management principles to identify and resolve issues and risks
  • Creates mitigation plans and informs management
  • Identified as an expert in creating metrics and risk mitigation techniques
  • Exemplifies advanced skills to provide clear project status, documentation, and reporting for any size project, or complexity especially in cases where elements and scope are unknown
  • Identified as an expert in communication skills, including effective listening, responding appropriately, and managing difficult conversations
  • Builds relationships and gains alignment across business units
  • Key contributor to identifying and resolving conflicts by understanding interdependencies and development of effective relationships between the development team(s), other Garmin teams and external entities
  • Serves as a role model for leading effective and efficient team meetings
  • Ensures team members/stakeholders are appropriately informed of project scope, schedule and cost
  • Determines and documents program objectives/requirements, organizes programs and projects, and develops standards and guides for diverse engineering activities
  • Exemplifies project ownership with minimal involvement from Team Leader/Mentor, functions as single point of contact for project needs, significant contributions to the success of the project
  • Mentors, evaluates and aids in problem resolution for less experienced Project Managers (Project Manager - Engineer 1-3)


AOEM:
  • Business travel required, mostly international travel.
  • Willing to work outside of core hours as needed due to time change with other countries
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer communication skills, including but not limited to handling difficult conversations and negotiating with the customer for reasonable delivery/quality targets
  • Understanding of the compliance standards (i.e. IATF 16949, ASPICE, VDA, etc.) that are applicable to AOEM development, including understanding which standards are applicable to which global developments
  • Responsible in filling the primary auditee role for both internal and external audits to support business needs
  • Capable of completing PPAP and APQP documentation requirements to meet customer expectations
  • Leads global project development to provide a quality product for the AOEM customer

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline AND a minimum of 9 years of relevant project management experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant project management experience
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates a proven track record in leading complex product development or major concept projects which involve multiple modules
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to generate and support pragmatic solutions while maintaining high quality standards
  • Previous experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Computer skills in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint) or similar

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Tier 1 automotive environment leading complex customer facing programs with multi-year development and production cycles
  • Experience with Automotive SPICE and other relevant automotive standards
