About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead PLC Field Technician with a strong background in PLC-based control systems. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the installation, configuration, and commissioning of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems. You'll mentor technicians in the field, oversee integration and startup efforts, and serve as a key technical point of contact for both internal teams and clients. This is a full traveling position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead field installation, wiring, and commissioning of PLC systems for industrial automation and BMS applications.
  • Troubleshoot PLC programs and field devices, ensuring smooth communication with SCADA or HMI platforms (e.g., Ignition).
  • Coordinate with engineers and project managers to execute startup plans and ensure systems are installed per design specs.
  • Interface with clients during commissioning, provide support during startup, and resolve technical issues.
  • Configure protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, and OPC UA across various devices.
  • Develop as-built documentation, redlines, and commissioning checklists.
  • Mentor and coach junior technicians in the field.
  • Manage materials, timelines, and priorities across multiple active job sites.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout job sites for extended periods

  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight or confined spaces
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and materials up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools, wiring, and small components
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions
  • Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment when required (hard hate, vest, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots)

  • Ability to hear and respond to alarms, equipment sounds, and verbal instructions
