Position OverviewInternational Motors is seeking a Lead Paint Manufacturing Engineer – Night Shift to provide hands-on technical leadership for Paint operations at the San Antonio Manufacturing Plant. This role owns the stability, capability, and continuous improvement of pretreatment, E-Coat, sealer, paint application, and curing processes while partnering with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Environmental, Controls, suppliers, and plant leadership.
As the primary Paint Engineering resource during night-shift production, this engineer will work directly on the manufacturing floor to respond to line calls, analyze process and quality data, restore production, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
This salaried role may require support outside normal production hours for startups, recovery efforts, launches, extended shifts, or occasional weekends based on operational needs.
As International Motors continues to grow in San Antonio, we are expanding our production operations with the introduction of a night production shift. The night shift is Monday through Thursday from 5:30 PM to 4:00 AM, with production planned to begin in early 2027. This is a salaried position supporting a manufacturing operation. While the primary schedule aligns with the designated production shift, employees are expected to provide operational support as needed to meet business objectives. This may require working outside normal production hours, including extended shifts, production startup activities, recovery efforts, and occasional weekend support based on operational requirements.
Shift Differential: 10% differential upon transitioning to Night Shift work schedule.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on engineering support for night-shift Paint operations and serve as the primary engineering point of contact for production and process issues.
- Own and optimize pretreatment, E-Coat, sealer, paint application and delivery, ovens, booths, conveyors, environmental systems, and associated process controls.
- Maintain process capability and chemistry within defined operating limits by reviewing laboratory results and trend data and coordinating adjustments, cleaning, maintenance, or solution rebuilds with plant teams and suppliers.
- Lead troubleshooting and corrective action for paint defects, process variation, equipment failures, chemistry concerns, cure performance, contamination, corrosion risk, adhesion, film build, color, and appearance.
- Respond to production interruptions, establish containment, isolate failure modes, coordinate recovery, verify permanent corrective actions, and provide clear shift handoffs.
- Use process, chemistry, equipment, quality, and production data—including SPC, capability analysis, DOE, oven profiles, film build, appearance, adhesion, and defect trends—to identify risk and validate improvements.
- Develop and maintain PFMEAs, Control Plans, reaction plans, process specifications, standard work, inspection standards, audits, and Paint process Data PAQs.
- Lead process readiness for product launches, engineering changes, and plant capital projects from requirements and trials through commissioning, validation, training, ramp-up, and production handoff.
- Partner across Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Environmental, Product Design, suppliers, and contractors to improve safety, quality, uptime, throughput, material usage, environmental performance, and cost while mentoring plant technical teams.
