About the Role

Daily Mail US is seeking a Lead, Original Video to oversee a flexible, cross-functional team of Video Journalists supporting the development and execution of Daily Mail's original video slate.

The Lead, Original Video will help identify, develop, and evaluate original video concepts, with a focus on ideas that have the potential to become repeatable formats and long-term franchises across Daily Mail's video portfolio.

This is a highly collaborative leadership role at the intersection of editorial, production, and operations. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable managing workflows, shaping storytelling, developing talent, and stepping into productions when needed to support high-priority stories and evolving team needs.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a cross-functional team of Video Journalists supporting Daily Mail's original video slate.
  • Allocate production resources across stories and series based on news priorities, development needs, and team capacity.
  • Establish clear expectations and objectives for direct reports while providing regular feedback, performance management, and career development.
  • Foster a collaborative team culture that promotes flexibility, creativity, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee execution across recurring formats, explainers, and premium video projects spanning multiple editorial verticals.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Video, editors, reporters, and other newsroom stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and at a high creative standard.
  • Provide editorial guidance on scripts, story structure, visual execution, and final delivery.
  • Step into productions as needed to support launches, high-priority initiatives, staffing gaps, or complex editorial workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to scale successful concepts into repeatable formats and video franchises.
  • Uphold copyright, legal, ethical, and editorial standards across all video output.


About You

The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of editorial judgment, production expertise, people leadership, and operational agility. You should be comfortable working in a fast-moving, 24/7 newsroom environment while balancing immediate production needs with longer-term creative and strategic goals.

  • 6+ years of experience in video production, digital media, journalism, or a related field.
  • Proven experience overseeing recurring series, explainers, franchise-based programming, or other original video initiatives.
  • 3+ years of management experience leading Video Journalists, producers, editors, or cross-functional creative teams.
  • Strong editorial judgment and storytelling instincts, particularly within news, explainer, or social-first video.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, 24/7 news environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on production problem-solving with long-term operational planning.
  • Strong understanding of digital video audiences and what drives engagement and performance across social platforms.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to navigate shifting priorities, tight deadlines, and evolving production demands.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and modern collaborative production workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of Daily Mail's editorial voice, audience, and video strategy.
  • Ability to interpret audience and performance data to evaluate formats, refine editorial strategy, and inform creative decisions.
