Responsibilities

  • Conduct turbomachinery design analyses using FEA, hand calculations, and rotordynamics
  • Develop strategies for mechanical design systems and design processes
  • Create mechanical tools to enhance calculation productivity and accuracy
  • Collaborate with various teams to deliver optimal design solutions
  • Mentor and develop junior engineering staff through knowledge sharing
  • Supervise and approve work processes and design documentation
  • Lead design tasks for projects, including aftermarket support activities
  • Engage in root cause analyses for equipment and field operations
  • Drive cost reductions and improve competitiveness in project offerings
  • Work with customers to integrate equipment and design solutions
  • Select components and materials for turbomachinery systems
  • Conduct safety and operability reviews
  • Review and approve manufacturing drawings
  • Assist in bid estimates for project development
  • Streamline engineering processes in collaboration with Business Improvement Team
  • Promote safety and diversity within the workplace

Full Job Description
Responsibilities will include:
  • Perform various turbomachinery design analyses for our most challenging projects and products including FEA (stress, deflection, and modal), hand calculations, and rotordynamics,
  • Contribute to establishing strategy for the future of our mechanical design systems and design processes and helping to direct strategy towards ensuring our designs cover a maximum range of applications for our products,
  • Participate in the development of mechanical tools to improve the productivity and accuracy of calculations including collaboration with other engineers and 3rd party commercial software teams,
  • Collaborate with product, proposals, and across engineering disciplines to promote the best solutions to fit the needs of our customers,
  • Mentor, train, and develop less experienced engineering staff by sharing knowledge and best practices,
  • Supervise the creation of work processes, procedures, guidelines, training packages, and standards and approve content related to turbomachinery mechanical design and analysis,
  • Executing mechanical design tasks related to won projects and product development initiatives, development and execution of innovation projects, support of aftermarket activities and engineering tasks,
  • Support root cause analyses (RCA) of equipment and field commissioning and start up activities executed by the Aftermarket Team,
  • Drive engineering and material cost reductions and competitiveness across project and product offerings collaborating with stakeholders,
  • Collaboration with customers to ensure proper design and integration of equipment into the process,
  • Select components and materials for turbomachinery and systems,
  • Perform safety and operability reviews,
  • Checking and approving manufacturing drawings,
  • Support of bid estimate development,
  • Collaborate with the Business Improvement Team to develop new and standardized design engineering tools and work processes for streamlining projects and product development,
  • Challenge norms with alternate solutions rooted in engineering fundamentals,
  • Promote safety and diversity consistent with the philosophies of Rotoflow.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Technical Degree: BSME or related degree, advanced degree and focus on turbomachinery design, rotordynamics, fluid film bearings, design for manufacturability, and/or manufacturing processes a plus,
  • 20+ years turbomachinery or rotating machinery design experience,
  • Detail-oriented, goal oriented, organized, creative, self-motivated, collaborative and customer focused,
  • Excellent analytical, creativity, problem solving, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability and drive to continuously improve and eliminate unnecessary barriers or complexity to meeting customer needs,
  • Ability to learn quickly and contribute to fostering an environment of continuous learning, acting as a coach and mentor.
  • Ability to create an environment of trust and consistently exhibit a positive attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (written, verbal and presentation),
  • Exemplify a passion for winning and ability to motivate teams,
  • Advanced FEA capabilities a plus,
  • Fluid film bearing, gas bearing, magnetic bearing, hydrostatic bearing and rolling element bearing applications and design experience a plus,
  • Rotordynamic analysis capabilities a plus,
  • Turbine testing, data acquisition and data evaluation a plus,
  • 2D CAD and 3D modeling and simulation a plus,
  • Equipment startup and plant integration a plus,
  • Programming skills: VB, C#, C+, Python, Matlab, Fortran or similar languages a plus
