The Role
The Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer provides technical leadership and project delivery oversight for instrumentation and control (I&C) engineering services in support of Worley and its customers. The role leads small to medium-sized I&C teams, coordinates discipline activities, and ensures safe, high-quality, and compliant engineering deliverables are delivered on time and within budget. The Lead Instrumentation Engineer serves as a key interface between the project team, discipline leadership, and the client across the project lifecycle, from concept and detailed engineering through construction and commissioning.
Responsibilities
Lead instrumentation and controls engineering execution on assigned projects, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
Provide day-to-day technical direction to Instrumentation Engineers and Designers, including task assignment, technical oversight, and progress monitoring.
Serve as the primary I&C discipline interface with Project Management, other engineering disciplines, clients, vendors, and project stakeholders.
Support project planning, including execution strategies, resource planning, workshare models, and workload forecasting.
Ensure engineering activities comply with Worley management systems, applicable codes and standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
Manage scope changes in accordance with approved change management processes and communicate impacts to project schedule and budget.
Oversee the development, checking, and technical integrity of I&C engineering deliverables, including:
P&IDs, control narratives, and cause & effect diagrams
Instrument specifications and datasheets
I/O lists and control system architecture
Loop diagrams, wiring, and termination drawings
Junction box and marshalling cabinet layouts
Motor control and interlock schematics
Instrument installation details and construction work packages
Provide technical input to procurement activities, including requisitions, technical bid evaluations, vendor data reviews, and purchase order support.
Support construction, commissioning, and start-up activities, including resolution of field queries, technical deviations, and engineering issues.
Participate in internal, interdisciplinary, and client design reviews to ensure technical integrity of designs.
Identify technical risks and execution challenges, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate issues as appropriate.
Coach and mentor junior and intermediate Instrumentation Engineers and Designers, supporting technical development and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

Working knowledge of instrumentation selection and application, including:
Temperature measurement, including thermowell design and wake frequency calculations
Pressure measurement and control
Familiarity with engineering data management systems and project delivery tools such as SAP, document management systems, and engineering databases.
Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent communication, coordination, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Experience across multiple project phases, including FEED, detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning, is an asset.
Experience with both brownfield and greenfield projects and/or portfolio or multi-project delivery environments is an asset.
