Position Title Lead Estimator / Express Division
Classification FLSA Exempt
Salary Range $86K - $100K/year
Reports to Director of Preconstruction
Position Type Full-Time

Purpose of the Role

Prepare complete estimates for assigned project(s) of small to medium size and complexity in our Express Division.

Functions / Duties

  • Follow all company procedures
  • Competently perform all duties and responsibilities of an Estimator
  • Ability to prepare complete conceptual, GMP, and hard bid estimates on a variety projects, including related owner deliverables
  • Ability to assist on more complex scopes on larger projects
  • Interface with owner, architect(s)/engineer(s), and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility
  • Identify and budget/estimate project items that are not readily or clearly shown on the project documents
  • Continue to build relationships with subcontractors/suppliers
  • Build relationships with architects/engineers/consultants/owners
  • Continue to build collaborative and respectful relationships with Operations
  • Successfully lead and prepare bid submittal forms in collaboration with Operations and Marketing, as required
  • Maintain regular communication with Operations to understand any challenges that are affecting budget, profitability, subcontractor performance, or constructability
  • Continue to provide and receive constructive criticism in a respectful manner that strengthens the team and individuals
  • Complete all tasks as required by the project deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Advanced verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Continuously improve personal and technical abilities to enhance the department and company
  • Successfully lead all preconstruction/estimating efforts on projects from kick off to operations handoff.
  • Provide oversite and direction for estimators on projects
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work
  • Coordinate total estimating effort relevant to particular bid/project as assigned
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimates figures
  • Understand subcontractor prequalification process
  • Good understanding of project risk items

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience

  • 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations technical training and/or experience
  • 4 to 7 years estimating, cost control and/or engineering experience related to similar facility construction
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control, as well as ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
  • Advanced plan reading abilities
  • Advanced level of proficiency in required estimating software

Physical Demands

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Spends approximately 70% of the time sitting, and 30% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
  • Occasionally* lifts up to 50 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions.
  • Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
  • Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and radio.
  • Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
  • Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.
