Job Description:

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical and Instrument Designer to support our Baton Rouge, LA office. The nature of the position involves working on multiple projects with other Designers and Engineers to support our industrial clients' needs. A successful candidate will excel in a team environment, is highly self-motivated, and is skilled in coordinating with other disciplines to ensure overall design accuracy. In this role the candidate will also be expected to meet with new and existing clients, conduct field walks for projects, and develop multi-disciplined proposals.

Essential Functions

  • Develops detailed engineering schedules and man-hour budgets for projects.
  • Perform and/or participate in site visits and field walks.
  • Coordinates and develops drawings and associated documents for projects.
  • Develops and compiles engineering design packages.

  • Work in a team environment supporting multiple projects at one time.

  • Assist Engineers and direct less experienced Designers in the design, drafting, and development of installation drawings.
  • Reviewing vendor shop/fabrication drawings/documents.
  • Ensures that Client, Industry, and Orbital guidelines, standards, and practices are being followed.
  • Capability to perform quality control checks of design packages.
  • Manage and schedule an design and drafting team.
  • Develop estimates and proposals for new multi-disciplined work.

Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) plus years' electrical and instrument design and technician experience with clients in pipeline, chemical, refining, terminal, and/or power industries.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Design and drafting experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation products.
  • Thorough understanding of and aptitude for current computer software, including CAD systems, and general Office Products.
  • Working knowledge of the NEC and industry standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD 2D & AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Experience with 3D Modeling
  • Experience with InTools
  • Self-starter, works independently with little direction
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including CAD systems, Microsoft Office products and design software
  • Has or can acquire:
    • TWIC
    • OSHA Basic
    • DISA Background
    • Other Orbital and client required training as-needed

This position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.

Location Note:

This is an on-site position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's location.

Salary Range:

$75.00 - $80.00 hourly (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
