Opportunity

Wealthfront is looking for an economist or data scientist with macro expertise to produce public-facing economic research, data sets, and written content using first- and third-party data. This role will sit within Wealthfront's Investment Research and Data Science team, and support the Wealthfront Content Team by providing insight into consumer, market, and business trends that helps young professionals connect macroeconomic news with their personal finance goals.

This role will particularly support our growing market commentary vertical and newsletter, Vested Interest, in addition to Wealthfront's blog, social media channels, and media outreach. To bring content and analyses to life across channels, this role will work closely with multiple teams across the company including the Vested Interest team, Investment Research, Social Media, Blog, Creative, Compliance, and more.

Data Science at Wealthfront

The Wealthfront Data Science team utilizes our rich financial and behavioral data to influence Marketing, Product and information security decisions. The team draws from backgrounds in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics and Finance.

The Data Scientist in this role will be primarily embedded within Wealthfront's Content Team, which focuses on inspiring and empowering smart financial decisions through original, timely content. Through this content, we aim to make Wealthfront the trusted partner for young professionals managing and growing wealth.

This is an ideal opportunity for a data scientist and/or macroeconomist who has experience analyzing stock market data and key economic indicators (CPI, PPI, FRED, etc.) and producing engaging public-facing writing and commentary for broad audiences. An ideal candidate will also have experience creating data visualizations and conducting media interviews about their work.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor market and macroeconomic news daily and generate timely, unique economic analyses that help young professionals navigate market trends and build their financial confidence.
  • Turn your analyses into public-facing written content, visualizations, and interactive tools that increase engagement with Wealthfront's audience.
  • Partner with Comms, Social Media and Creative teams to distribute your work across a variety of content channels.
  • Conduct media, podcast, and video interviews to further publicize your analyses.
  • Support additional Research and Data Science initiatives as needed.


Qualifications

  • 4-6+ years experience running quantitative economic data analyses and writing accessible, high-quality content summarizing your findings.
  • Experience analyzing third and first-party economic data and connecting it to consumer finance trends.
  • Storytelling creativity and expertise in translating data into unique, digestible content.
  • Experience with data visualization is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to participate in public facing media and/or video interviews required, previous experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in economics or another quantitative field required, Masters or PhD preferred.
  • Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as Python or R.


Estimated annual salary range: $185,000 - $211,000 plus equity and a discretionary bonus.
