ROLE: Lead, Corporate Accountant

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Accounting

LOCATION: Hybrid / Corporate Office in Richmond Hill

SALARY: $100,000 - $115,000

THE OPPORTUNITY

Venterra's Accounting team has been undergoing significant growth in its mandate and building lasting relationships with its business partners. The Accounting team is uniquely positioned to provide support to the FP&A, Treasury, Asset Management, Operations, and Technical Service teams as well as partner with our Investor Relations, Tax and Acquisitions departments. The team facilitates the dissemination of financial information to key business stakeholders to drive opportunities forward and create solutions to risks as they are identified.

In this role we are seeking a Lead, Corporate Accountant within the Accounting team with a high attention to detail and the ability to work independently while having a Team First mindset.

Critical to the role is the ability to serve as a subject matter expert for corporate accounting, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and leading key month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, while demonstrating value as a team member that can execute assigned tasks with a high degree of proficiency. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deliverables and ensure deadlines are achieved with minimal oversight.

The role will report to the Senior Manager, Accounting who will challenge the candidate to take on increasing levels of responsibility and drive innovation. As a part of the Accounting team, the candidate will have a peer group to collaborate with, working as a team to achieve Venterra's ambitious growth strategy.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting & Close Management
  • Lead and coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, schedules, and supporting analysis for management reporting.
  • Maintain close calendars and coordinate deliverables across multiple accounting teams.

General Ledger & Reconciliations
  • Oversee general ledger integrity and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and aging items to ensure timely resolution.
  • Monitor suspense accounts, clearing accounts, and intercompany balances.
  • Lead resolution of accounting discrepancies and process exceptions.
  • Ensure compliance with reconciliation standards and documentation requirements.

Technical Accounting & Compliance
  • Research and document accounting positions for new or complex transactions.
  • Support implementation of new accounting standards and policy changes.
  • Assist with external audits, internal audits, and regulatory reporting requirements.

Process Improvement & Automation
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automate manual processes, and strengthen financial controls.
  • Lead initiatives involving ERP systems, Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, and other reporting tools.
  • Develop and maintain standardized accounting procedures and process documentation.
  • Participate in finance transformation, system conversions, and process redesign projects.
  • Monitor key performance indicators related to close efficiency and financial reporting quality.

Business Partnership
  • Collaborate with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Property Accounting, and operational stakeholders.
  • Support business initiatives, acquisitions, dispositions, and special projects.


CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • CPA or financial designation is considered a strong asset.
  • 5+ years of experience in Accounting, Audit or FP&A.
  • Industry experience considered a strong asset.
  • Fundamental understanding of generally accepted accounting principles is required.
  • Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards and internal policies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience in VBA and SQL is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion, SAP, Yardi or similar platforms
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic work environment and taking on new challenges.
  • Natural curiosity and passion for digging into the details, learning new skills, and improving processes.
  • Strong communicator and excellent time management and stakeholder management skills.

*The base salary range is intended to reflect the role's base salary rate in locations throughout Canada. Salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, alignment with market data, and geographic location. The base salary range does not include any bonuses or benefits.
