Northrop Grumman Space Systems sector, located in Redondo Beach, California, is seeking a Laser Technician 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The qualified applicant will become part of a team that produces advanced hardware.

The Laser Technician 4 position performs a variety of tasks in the optical, mechanical, electro-mechanical or electronic areas as related to laser systems.

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Assisting engineers and other technicians in the development of high power laser systems.

- Performing precision inspection, cleaning, bonding, and troubleshooting of laser optical components.

- Assembling, aligning, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing, and maintaining laser components, sub-assemblies, systems and associated support equipment, including delicate freespace optics and optical assemblies, components for laser thermal management, and fiber optic components

- Working from verbal or written instructions that provide methods and sequence of assembly operations. Using assembly drawings and diagrams.

- Establishing test setups, conducts testing and reports data in prescribed formats.

- Following appropriate laser safety and laser cleanliness procedures/practices.

- Performing a variety of tasks using tools such as microscopes, precision adhesive dispensers, UV light curing systems for optical adhesives, alignment lasers and other optical alignment tools

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must be comfortable in a lab environment and be able to collaborate closely with optical engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.

Basic Qualifications:

- High School diploma and 6 years of additional education or related technician experience

- Experience performing precision inspection, cleaning, bonding, and troubleshooting of laser optical components

- Experience assembling, aligning, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing, and maintaining laser components, sub-assemblies, systems and associated support equipment, including delicate freespace optics and optical assemblies, components for laser thermal management, and fiber optic components

- Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and schematics

- Experience working with common optical inspection and assembly tools such as microscopes, precision adhesive dispensers, UV light curing systems for optical adhesives, alignment lasers and other optical alignment tools

Preferred Qualifications:

- An Associate's Degree in a technical discipline or other 2 year technical training

- Experience supporting the environmental testing of optical hardware including the use of thermal vacuum chambers, environmental test data acquisition hardware, and electronic test equipment

- Experience using tools including theodolites, interferometers, laser power meters, soldering irons, and fiber splicers

- Familiarity with optical substrate materials and their properties

- Experience working in a cleanroom environment

- Active DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,100.00 - $131,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
