The
Land GIS Principal Analyst leads the design, maintenance, analysis, and quality assurance of the geospatial needs of the Land Department. This role supports the Land function and all department workflows that rely on land-footprint data by turning complex ownership, lease, contract, and regulatory information into reliable GIS products and decision-ready insights. GIS Professional (GISP) certification is preferred. This role will report to the Land Technology & Analytics Supervisor and will collaborate closely with Crescent's Enterprise GIS team.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the creation, maintenance, and governance of the land GIS database, feature services, maps, and spatial-analysis workflows.
- Integrate land records, leases, rights-of-way, contracts, ownership information, plats, legal descriptions, survey data, and regulatory datasets into accurate GIS layers.
- Lead all assignments to the Land GIS group related to polygon drafting, cartography requests, data management, and other tasks necessary to meet business needs.
- Perform advanced spatial analysis to support acquisition, divestiture, leasing, title, development, permitting, and operational decisions.
- Establish and enforce data standards, documentation, quality-control procedures, versioning practices, and metadata requirements.
- Review and validate GIS work products, including lease polygons, tract boundaries, legal-description interpretations, and map deliverables.
- Develop automation and repeatable workflows using GIS tools, scripting, and appropriate AI-enabled technologies.
- Partner with Land and all departments whose workflows depend on land-footprint data, including Legal, Engineering, Development, Operations, and external vendors, to define requirements and deliver clear geospatial solutions.
- Produce executive-ready maps, dashboards, reports, and presentations.
- Mentor Land GIS staff and serve as the subject-matter expert for land data and geospatial best practices.
- Monitor emerging GIS, data-management, and AI capabilities and recommend practical improvements.
- Lead strategic initiatives involving third-party resources and external partners.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial Science, or a related field required; OR a minimum of 10 years of progressive, hands-on GIS experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- 7+ years of progressive GIS experience, including substantial land, lease, title, right-of-way, parcel, mineral, or energy-related GIS work.
- 7+ years with upstream O&G operations
- Demonstrated expertise with Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online or Enterprise, geodatabases, spatial analysis, and cartographic production.
- Experience with Python, SQL, Arcade, ModelBuilder, FME, or related GIS automation tools.
- Strong experience interpreting legal descriptions, plats, surveys, parcel or tract data, and land-record documentation, particularly relating to subsurface mineral legal descriptions
- Experience with data QA and QC, spatial data modeling, and GIS governance.
- Strong written communication, judgment, organization, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications- GISP certification.
- Experience with land-management systems, title data, regulatory GIS data, or energy and mineral assets.
- Experience applying AI tools responsibly to GIS data extraction, document review, workflow automation, or quality assurance.
