Seeking a Laboratory Services and Metrology Manager; semiconductor experience preferred.The Laboratory Services and Metrology Manager exercises independent judgment in establishing department priorities, allocating resources, and determining workload based on manufacturing risk, business needs, and production requirements. The role is responsible for reviewing and approving laboratory reports, technical interpretations, and recommendations, with the ability to delegate appropriate reviews to qualified technical personnel. The manager makes decisions regarding staffing, hiring, coaching, development, performance management, and compensation recommendations based on internal equity. This position determines appropriate analytical approaches for complex or non-routine testing, including when external laboratory services are needed, and recommends solutions when existing measurement systems or standard methods are insufficient. The manager also evaluates new analytical technologies and instrumentation in partnership with global representatives, exercises purchasing authority for laboratory and metrology needs, negotiates vendor service agreements, and resolves vendor issues. In addition, the role provides technical recommendations to customers and vendors while protecting proprietary and confidential information and facilitates cross-functional discussions requiring sound judgment and diplomacy.
Job Duties:- Manage professionals and technicians in a laboratory setting.
- Hire, mentor, coach, and dismiss staff in team as needed.
- Serve as a regional / global representative for the company or department in meetings with internal stakeholders, external clients, and service or equipment vendors. Serve as a regional / global subject matter expert on metrology and lab-related topics for process, applications, and facility engineers, as well as cross-functional teams within Siltronic.
- Responsible for the safety of employees in the department and indirectly responsible for safety of personnel in other departments.
- Responsible for the supervision of the databases maintained by the department in the form of computer files and reports.
- Serve as a team leader or facilitator for groups which are organized by upper management.
- Analyze activities of department for workflow/equipment needs and improvements based on production requirements. Maintain effective collaboration and communication with production teams to ensure laboratory services and priorities align with manufacturing needs.
- Responsible for laboratory design issues in terms of safety, maintenance, and lab upgrades.
- Responsible for maintaining excellent communications with international laboratory and metrology colleagues.
- Recommend process improvements based on silicon characterization and analytical findings to enhance product quality, yield and manufacturing efficiency.
- Manage and direct the development of innovative analytical methodologies, by collaboration with local and global teams to ensure alignment with business and technology objectives.
- Develop tests on materials or processes consistent with industry standards and global practices.
- Provide updates to International Metrology on project status, site alignment and international CES activities.
- Provide input in conjunction with Site Engineering leadership on the CAPEX planning for the site requirements.
- Active project management for acquisition of new metrology equipment at the site.
Position Requirements:Requires a Master's or PhD, preferably in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree with significant relevant industry experience demonstrating equivalent technical expertise may also be considered. Seven or more years of related experience is preferred, including at least two years in semiconductor manufacturing and three years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of chemistry, material science, silicon technology, wafer manufacturing, statistics, statistical process control, experimental design, and analytical methods is preferred, along with strong leadership, problem-solving, technical writing, communication, and computer skills.
