Our Lab Planners play a critical role in understanding client needs, translating operational requirements into facility solutions, and guiding projects from programming and planning through design and construction.

ResponsibilitiesDepending on experience level, responsibilities may include:
- Collaborating with clients, user groups, architects, engineers, and project teams to develop successful laboratory planning solutions.
- Leading or participating in programming, planning, and visioning workshops.
- Gathering and documenting laboratory requirements, workflows, equipment needs, and operational considerations.
- Developing laboratory concepts, adjacency studies, space programs, and planning strategies.
- Creating and presenting planning and design materials, including diagrams, floor plans, and presentation graphics.
- Supporting or leading laboratory design efforts throughout all project phases.
- Coordinating with architectural and engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Applying laboratory planning best practices, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client-specific criteria.
- Contributing to the development of construction documents and specifications.
- Building and maintaining client relationships through strong communication and trusted advisory support.
- Supporting business development efforts, project pursuits, and industry networking activities.
- Mentoring and developing junior team members, as appropriate for level and experience.
- Traveling periodically to support project execution, client meetings, and business development activities.
Minimum QualificationsWe're interested in candidates whose qualifications align with one or more of the following:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Planning, or a related field.
- Experience planning, programming, designing, or managing laboratory, research, healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, higher education, or technical facilities.
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant experience for mid-level professionals and 10+ years for senior-level candidates.
- Experience participating in or leading programming, planning, and design meetings.
- Knowledge of laboratory planning principles, laboratory operations, equipment, workflows, furniture systems, and technical facility requirements.
- Familiarity with applicable building codes, industry standards, and best practices related to laboratory environments.
- Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, visualization tools, or presentation development is a plus.
- Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel periodically based on project needs.
Preferred Qualifications- Architectural registration, NCIDQ certification, professional engineering licensure, or related credential.
- Experience with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic research, government, healthcare, or manufacturing clients.
- Knowledge of NIH guidelines, cGMP environments, cleanrooms, or specialized laboratory facility types.
- Experience mentoring staff and leading client-facing engagements.
- Participation in industry organizations such as ISPE, I2SL, SCUP, AIA, or related professional associations.
